the magic of 99 Balloons is the people who are part. this year we counted how many hours a person with & a person without disability spent together through our rEcess respite nights & bEfriend Communities - with the grand total being 22,862 relational hours!!!!

the annual bEfriend Christmas gathering is a real light to us all - a reminder of things to look forward to, people who really know + care for you, and how being together really does change everything.

Josh Drury volunteered for rEcess back in 2011 as a University of Arkansas student, he nominated Matt & Ginny for ’s Community Values Award because of the impact he experienced years and years ago.

Now Josh is a dad to an incredible daughter born with spina bifida & disability has become even more central to their lives.

From rEcess, to fatherhood, to getting his master’s degree in theological studies at Regent College - Josh has wrestled with the question of “what does it mean to be made in the image of God, and how does that truth honor the dignity of every human being?”

Josh shared, “a lot of society doesn’t know how to walk with persons with disabilities, so I think giving the chance to serve is a tremendous impact for the community and those who are blessed to be part of it.” 99 Balloons makes space for people with & without disability to get to know one another + experience authentic friendship. How Ginny and Matt built such a ministry out of grief, after losing their son Eliot, is profound in and of itself, Josh explains.

last month, Matt & Cassidy visited our 99B global partner in Uganda to dream together about future ways to continue expanding the opportunities for adults with disabilities to have dignifying employment & really be known in community 🎈

one of our Site Directors in Atlanta, GA filmed this video & invited us to experience his church’s very first rEcess night that launched this past month.

after just their first respite night, the team is already asking, “what families impacted by disability can we invite from outside our church and in our community?”

real people saying yes to creating a place where everyone is known that changes the culture of their church and city.

each year 99B is joined by students at the University of Arkansas looking to be more involved with the story of disability through our fellowship/internship.

one of our 2025-26 interns, Montana, shared “this internship has completely reshaped the way I think about belonging, 99 Balloons has opened my eyes to how powerful inclusion truly is……not just as an idea but as something that changes lives. through every event, conversation, and relationship, I’ve seen what it looks like when everyone is valued for exactly who they are. I’m so thankful to be part of something that reflects Christ’s love so clearly.”

when we think of all that we are thankful for, at the top of our list is friendship like this. the good and hard of life feels different when you experience it alongside a great friend.

bEfriend creates simple yet profound friendships between people with & without disability. Many adults with disabilities primarily interact with family or paid staff but we believe in a different story - one where friendships are freely given and life is shared. it changes everything. 🎈✨
