we had our monthly gathering of Site Directors yesterday and had bookend sites - one launching next Saturday & one who has faithfully led rEcess at her church for 14 years and many in between!!! ✨🥹

nothing like a Saturday game night with our friends in bEfriend Communities across Northwest Arkansas!!!

there absolutely was some trash talking in bingo & one highlight was our friend Morgan multitasking watching the Razorback game while working on her bingo 😍

we’ve been connecting with several of our rEcess sites and this is how they are feeling with the snow from winter storms finally melting! ❄️☃️

we know churches like yours invest so much time into planning, so each year we take a load off the planning by providing an annual rEcess respite night curriculum with 12 months worth of themed crafts (like this one!), large group activities, sensory bins, special visitor ideas, devotionals, and accessibility adaptations so that there is something for everyone 🫶

since 2007, 99 Balloons has been living out what our co-founder, Matt Mooney, reflects on from the time in the very beginning with his son Eliot: “we received so much love and wanted to invite others into the love we received”

99 Balloons is building relational communities across the globe so that every person with a disability and their family can live a full life within relationships.

& we will keep going for every family experiencing disability to know just how truly loved and needed they are.

the church was never meant to be the place where only those labeled “strong” lead or the “put together” belong.

actually, the upside down kingdom of God moves at a different pace and values what the world does not - the weakness and limits in every human are not hidden but embraced & every person is needed just as they are.

disability is not a problem to solve or a ministry silo to manage - its a chance for us to know and see more of who God is through relationships. AND the church desperately need the gifts and ministries of our friends with disabilities.

rEcess is a door for churches to meet real, tangible needs of families with disability by offering them a break! & it leads to our church partners experiencing the gift of real knowing and learning from the disability community.

meet one of our bEfriend pairings from last May - Noel & Rhett! ✨
 they were thoughtfully matched because of their shared kindness towards all people, great humor, and the way they consistently advocate for the people around them.

living just 10 minutes apart, Noel & Rhett show us that friendship can be as simple + meaningful as spending time outside, enjoying good food while catching up on life. they share goals and hopes for the future and support one another in them, just like good friends do!

99 Balloons proclaims the worth & image bearing beauty over people with and without disability - building communities where folks with different stories are brought together in real relationship & begin proclaiming this over one another

you receive this kind of love not because of what you do or don’t do in this world but just as you show up today. 🤍🎈✨

the magic of 99 Balloons is the people who are part. this year we counted how many hours a person with & a person without disability spent together through our rEcess respite nights & bEfriend Communities - with the grand total being 22,862 relational hours!!!!

the annual bEfriend Christmas gathering is a real light to us all - a reminder of things to look forward to, people who really know + care for you, and how being together really does change everything.

Josh Drury volunteered for rEcess back in 2011 as a University of Arkansas student, he nominated Matt & Ginny for ’s Community Values Award because of the impact he experienced years and years ago.

Now Josh is a dad to an incredible daughter born with spina bifida & disability has become even more central to their lives.

From rEcess, to fatherhood, to getting his master’s degree in theological studies at Regent College - Josh has wrestled with the question of “what does it mean to be made in the image of God, and how does that truth honor the dignity of every human being?”

Josh shared, “a lot of society doesn’t know how to walk with persons with disabilities, so I think giving the chance to serve is a tremendous impact for the community and those who are blessed to be part of it.” 99 Balloons makes space for people with & without disability to get to know one another + experience authentic friendship. How Ginny and Matt built such a ministry out of grief, after losing their son Eliot, is profound in and of itself, Josh explains.
