In honor of Diabetes Awareness month here is some information about diabetes and hearing loss.

Did you know that more than 37 million people in the United States have diabetes. Research shows that hearing loss is twice as common in people with diabetes as it is in those who don't have diabetes.

High blood glucose levels, associated with diabetes, cause damage to the small blood vessels in the inner ear, similar to the way in which diabetes can damage the eyes and the kidneys.

If you are a diabetic and experiencing hearing loss, you are encouraged to seek help from an audiologist.
From a full hearing exam, you'll learn more about your hearing loss. You will also be told what can be done to treat it. Call (479)587-0088 to schedule your hearing examination today.

October 10 is National Audiologist Day! 👂💬

It still amazes me that I get to do this work. I support families, connect kids to sound, and help make audiology feel a little less overwhelming. One appointment, one conversation, one moment at a time.

Audiologists do so much more than test hearing. We are often the first to deliver big news. We walk families through emotions, questions, and decisions. We troubleshoot, we advocate, and we hold space.

Access to hearing care is still limited in many parts of the world. I don’t take it for granted that I get to be part of someone’s journey, especially as a deaf adult and a mama.

To my fellow audiologists, thank you for the heart you bring to this work. The care, the compassion, the quiet moments you hold for others — it all matters.

Just realized Feb 3-9 is Tinnitus Awareness Week. I’m a little late to the party, but decided to go ahead and post a series that focuses on tinnitus and its treatment.
It should be noted that I’ve been in audiology for 15 years and have yet to hear objective tinnitus in a patient.

On 12/23/24, we were able to gift our second set of hearing aids this season! Del Rea was fit with ReSound Nexia 9 receiver-in-ear hearing aids! Big thank you to ReSound and Dr Steve Cashman for the donation of hearing aids, clinic space, and my time. We wouldn’t not be able to do this without your generosity.
Together we are bringing better hearing to people like Del Rea!

Happy Holidays! I want to share a little information about how our Gift of Hearing recipient is chosen. As the year passes, any patient I encounter that we are unable to find funding for goes on a list. These are people without health insurance or with insurance that doesn’t cover amplification. It is a short list as I am mostly able to find funding for those who are unable to afford hearing aids. We had 8 patients on our list. Their initials were added to a random generator wheel and from there a winner is found. I love helping our recipients and only saddened by the fact I can’t give hearing aids to all. This year there are 2 patients that will receive hearing aids. We will share our second recipient’s story on Monday. Thank you to ReSound for the hearing aids. And thank you to my employer, Dr Steve Cashman at ENT and Allergy Center, for allowing me to donate my time in clinic.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year and we love giving! Willadeen is one of our hearing aid patients. She is 100 years young, has a heart of gold, and a severe hearing loss. She is our first Gift of Hearing with ReSound recipient this season and we were thrilled to help her hear better again. Happy Hearing, Willadeen!

Kelly is so incredibly talented! He mentioned that he was having some trouble with the sound of his Martin guitar around 4-5kHz. Too much compression and an oscillating quality. We wanted to make sure we solved the problem after a programming adjustment. Thank you for blessing our office with your talent!

Problems with the way your hearing aid is performing? Come tell me about it!
