🦋🫁 Next Wednesday December 10th from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. will be bringing their Lung Cancer Screening Bus back to The CARE Clinic for their final visit of 2025! The Lung Bus is a mobile imaging system that allows them to take low dose CT lung screening technology into communities in the Sandhills region. Offering imaging services outside the hospital helps reach individuals who may not have access or the opportunity to get this scan otherwise. About 90% of stage 1 cancers are completely treatable, so early screening is essential. This opportunity is invaluable and we are grateful to have this partnership with FirstHealth of the Carolinas!

The Lung Bus is equipped with a 40-slice CT scanner, and scans are performed by a certified technologist. The test is simple and quick taking only about 10 minutes. Screenings will be free of charge. If you meet the criteria for eligibility, PLEASE pre-register by calling (910) 715-LUNG (5864) OR email LungBus@firsthealth.org 🦋🫁

In our community, we often talk about looking out for one another. Today, we want to share a story that reminds us just how life-changing that care can be. Amanda is a neighbor, a friend, a hardworking member of our community. She’d always been healthy, so when she began feeling the familiar discomfort of what she thought was a simple UTI, she brushed it off - like so many of us would. But as the days went on and the pain didn’t fade, worry began to creep in. It was a caring co-worker who finally said, “You should call The CARE Clinic. They’ll help you.”

That small moment of encouragement, one person looking out for another, set the stage for a miracle. When Amanda came to us, she expected a quick checkup and maybe a prescription. Instead, our medical team discovered something far more serious. Amanda wasn’t fighting a UTI. She was fighting Bladder Cancer.

Because she walked through our doors, she didn’t have to face that diagnosis alone. The CARE Clinic connected her to the specialists she needed, guided her through referrals, and stood by her side as she began surgery and chemotherapy. It was a frightening journey, but she didn’t walk it alone.

Today, Amanda is thriving. She’s healing. She’s hopeful. And she often says, “The CARE Clinic saved my life. If it weren’t for the care I received here, I wouldn’t be alive today.” Amanda’s story is not just her own, it belongs to all of us. It reflects what happens when a community comes together to support those who have nowhere else to turn. It shows the power of early diagnosis, compassionate care, and the belief that every person deserves a chance to live a healthy life.

And this is why your support matters. When you give to The CARE Clinic, you’re not simply donating - you’re stepping into someone’s story at the moment they need it most. You’re helping ensure that the next Amanda, whoever they may be, finds the care, answers, and hope they deserve.

💛Together, we can continue changing and saving lives in our community. Thank you for being part of this mission. We hope you consider donating on this final day of the GivingTuesday Campaign to have your gift amplified! 💛

November is Lung Cancer Awareness Month. On Wednesday November 12th from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. we are linking up with FirstHealth of the Carolinas for another beneficial opportunity for the community! They will be bringing their Lung Cancer Screening Bus back to us here at The CARE Clinic. Each year, more people die of lung cancer than of colon, breast, and prostate combined. Additionally, Lung Cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths in North Carolina.

The Lung Bus is equipped with a 40-slice CT scanner and scans are performed by a certified technologist. The test is simple and quick taking only about 10 minutes. Screenings will be free of charge. If you meet the criteria for eligibility, please pre-register by calling (910) 715-LUNG (5864) OR email LungBus@firsthealth.org 🦋

Our Director of Development and Marketing, Nicole Ryan, was fortunate to be able to attend 3 local pop-up events that Ciscrp brought their amazing Journey to Better Health Mobile Exhibit to. Thursday was the Cape Fear Valley Health Mobile Integrated Healthcare event at Kingdom Impact Global Ministries. Friday was an event at The Bill Crisp Senior Center. Sunday was The Dogwood Festival. It was great to see the walk-up numbers of those learning more information regarding clinical research. We hope to have CISCRP visit again in the future!

Be on the lookout for the Journey to Better Health Mobile Exhibit at 4 local events this week! This is a mobile exhibit that showcases clinical research information to local communities in a fun, interactive way! The goal of this project is to: Engage diverse communities in clinical research by integrating into the community and meeting folks where they are to make this information accessible; raise awareness about clinical research; address underlying barriers to participation; and increase engagement of communities that have not been appropriately represented in the clinical research process. This exhibit is brought to you by CISCRP (Center for Information and Study on Clinical Research Participation) Ciscrp . The CARE Clinic will be stopping by the Thursday and Friday events! Please check out the following link to learn more: https://www.ciscrp.org/mobileexhibit
