Today, we join you in celebrating March as National Nutrition Month, an annual campaign established in 1973 by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. This month is an opportunity to learn how making informed food choices can positively impact overall health and well-being for ourselves and for those closest to us—our families and communities.

We resonate strongly with this year's theme, "Discover the Power of Nutrition." Through IFM's ACCME-accredited functional medicine education, we emphasize how optimizing nutritional status can be one of the most important and effective lifestyle-based interventions. Personalized nutrition serves as a powerful preventive and therapeutic tool for improving health outcomes. Learn more at:https://hubs.la/Q047CcW90

IFM Practitioner, how many of your patients present with recurrent infections, seasonal atopy, or persistent symptoms that don't quite fit an autoimmune diagnosis? These unexplained cases can be challenging to address. The functional medicine approach is designed to help you understand how dysfunction occurs across body systems so you can identify the upstream factors contributing to chronic symptoms.

We invite you to meet new functional medicine colleagues and explore the underlying mechanisms of immune dysfunction. Together, we will determine what each patient needs for optimal immune functioning and bridge the gap between inflammation, autoimmunity, and systemic health.

Transform your approach to autoimmunity and inflammatory diseases. You can still register to join this session today: https://go.ifm.org/4cRst7f

Food can be more than fuel — it can be informational and supportive.

Certain nutrients and anti‑inflammatory foods, including quercetin‑rich fruits, turmeric, ginger, and omega‑3 fatty acids, may help stabilize mast cells and support immune regulation. These dietary approaches can be part of a broader functional medicine strategy when working with Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS) and related conditions.

A range of mast cell disorders can overlap with other acute and chronic illnesses. Learn more about MCAS and functional medicine approaches in our article: https://hubs.la/Q045PLGv0

For clinicians and lifelong learners seeking deeper clinical tools, the Immune APM offers advanced insights into immune‑related conditions and functional medicine strategies.

As we honor Black History Month, we recognize leaders whose courage and vision continue to influence health and medicine today.

Dr. Daniel Hale Williams (1856-1931) was a groundbreaking surgeon, innovator, and institution builder whose contributions helped shape modern medicine.

In 1893, he performed one of the first successful open-heart surgeries in a modern medical context. Beyond surgical innovation, Dr. Williams founded Provident Hospital, the first hospital in the United States with an integrated medical staff and training program, expanding access to care and medical education.

His legacy reminds us that advancing medicine means advancing equity, access, and care for all.

“Anything is possible when it’s done in love, and everything you can do should be done in love, or it will fail.” – Dr. Daniel Hale Williams

Research continues to uncover how the gut microbiome and immune system interact, with implications for autoimmune conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis. Changes in microbial balance — known as dysbiosis — may contribute to immune activation and systemic inflammation, influencing the development or progression of autoimmune disease.

Understanding these relationships can help clinicians and patients think more holistically about gut health and immune regulation.

87% of U.S. physicians report that interacting with and helping patients is the most gratifying part of their work.

Applying Functional Medicine in Clinical Practice (AFMCP)™ supports that mission by equipping clinicians with practical tools to understand root causes, personalize care, and apply lifestyle-based strategies that support long-term health.

For clinicians who value connection, curiosity, and impact, AFMCP offers a path to deepen patient care and clinical confidence.
