We have talked about hormones and the importance of balance. But, are you doing the lifestyle things you should, to help with this balance?????

-get adequate amounts of protein in your diet (1/2 your body weight in grams of protein).
-support your liver (the master metabolizer of hormones).
-get your cortisol regulated (supplements, morning sunlight, not too much caffeine, breathing exercises).
-appropriate supplementation (vitamin D3K2, Magnesium, Electrolytes). More specifics depending on each person's health status!

Studies have shown that perimenopause and menopause even affects your gut health!
When estrogen and progesterone levels go down, this causes slowing of GI motility and lack of appropriate levels of digestive enzymes!
Every woman needs a good probiotic! And, if you have noted more bloating and issues with protein and fiber, you need a good digestive enzyme!

Did you know that taking oral estrogen for hormone replacement can actually lower your testosterone levels?!?!?!?
Taking estrogen orally changes your s*x hormone binding globulin, which is a protein in your blood that binds testosterone. This can cause a female to have lower testosterone levels (less free testosterone available for your body to use), which can cause fatigue, low libido, and loss of muscle mass.

Have you ever heard a woman say peri-menopause is like a roller coaster? Because it is!! 😬🫣
In this time of life your hormones can vary from day to day. Highs and lows! Symptoms can include hot flashes, mood changes, anxiety, insomnia, and heart palpitations!
This is when it is not only important to follow up with a knowledgeable provider, but take good supplements to keep your body healthy!
Probiotics for good gut health, Magnesium for sleep (among other things), vitamin D3 with K2 because this is a precursor to your hormones, and B vitamins for mood and energy support. These are the basics, and there are many more than can be specific to each woman! 👩‍⚕️😊

Lots of women are told that they do not need progesterone replacement in menopause, especially if they no longer have a uterus.
However, progesterone signals throughout the body do not disappear if you have a hysterectomy!
I recommend speaking to your provider about how important both of these hormones are and why women commonly feel "unbalanced" or have estrogen dominant symptoms when they do not also take progesterone!

Did you know that heart racing or palpitations can be a common symptom of perimenopause!
This is because hormones fluctuate during this time, they can be high or low! This affects the autonomic nervous system, adrenal glands, and can even affect the tone of your blood vessels. Quick hormone changes can cause the heart rate and rhythm changes! An actual heart problem should always be ruled out, but this can be a cause if your heart is healthy!

Have you been told that you don't need your estrogen levels checked?? There is science behind why you SHOULD have your levels checked!

Studies have shown that estrogen levels below 10 are associated with significantly higher risk of osteoporosis and bone fracture. Women with levels between 10-25 have less risk, but women with estrogen levels above 25 have the least amount of risk!

There are reasons to have your levels checked! Find a provider who can help you through this stage of life! 👩‍⚕️😊

Things you can do to reduce inflammation in your thyroid....

1. Red light therapy! This is very anti-inflammatory and can reduce autoimmune effects on the thyroid!
2. Dairy and gluten free diet. You can start with one or the other and don't get distressed if it isn't perfect! Make lifestyle changes!
3. Consider low-dose Naltrexone. This can be a very effective treatment, especially with autoimmune thyroid disease. Again, very anti-inflammatory!

Oral estrogen can be a negative for HRT.....

1. Absorption can be difficult if you don't have good gut health!
2. Your gut will turn Estradiol into Estrone, which can cause more breast and uterus symptoms. (This increases cancer risk 😬).
3. Oral estrogen has been shown to increase the risk of blood clots! (When compared to topical because the oral goes through your liver metabolism).

Maybe not as "easy", but likely safer, I recommend estrogen patches, cream or gel! 👩‍⚕️
