Do you have spots on your lips? They are called Fordyce spots.

Fordyce spots, also known as Fordyce granules or Fordyce glands, are a type of skin condition characterized by enlarged ectopic sebaceous glands (i.e., oil glands). They are believed to be caused by sebum (or natural oils).

This oil gets trapped in a sebaceous gland that does not have hair. So there is no way to discharge the natural body oil secretions. So bumps occur, sometimes isolated or scattered, and can cluster together.

Fordyce spots are a natural part of your anatomy, and very common occurring in 70-80% of adults. They are likely present at birth, but may grow and become more visible after puberty when hormonal changes enlarge them.

It occurs twice as often in men as women. And more common in people with oily skin.

These spots may seem to appear after lIp enhancements - but the spots have always been there. After lip filler they make be more noticeable - because volume was added and the skin of the lips stretched.

These spots generally fade in time without treatment. Note they are normal and the majority of people have them.

What NOT to do: pick or squeeze the spots - this may cause infection.

What you CAN do - topical retinol may help reduce them, maintain a healthy nutrient rich diet, stay hydrated, and ensure lips are moisturized daily!
