When do I wear a mask?
1. If you are sick, wear a mask over your nose and mouth
2. You should wear a mask over your nose and mouth if you must be around other people or animals, including pets (even at home).
3. If you are not fully vaccinated, age 2 and older you should wear a mask in indoor public places, in general you dont need to wear a mask in outdoor setting, however in areas in areas of high numbers of covid 19 cases, consider wearing a mask in crowded outdoor settings and for activities with close contact with others who are not fully vaccinated.
4. If you are fully vaccinated and have a condition or take meds that weaken your immune system, please protect your self, wear mask, practice self distance
5. You don’t need to wear the mask if you are alone.
6. If you can’t put on a mask (because of trouble breathing, for example), cover your coughs and sneezes in some other way. Try to stay at least 6 feet away from other people. This will help protect the people around you.
7. Masks should not be placed on young children under age 2 years, anyone who has trouble breathing, or anyone who is not able to remove the mask without help.
8. You quarantine when you might have been exposed to the virus.
- what does mean?" in close contact" (within 6 feet of someone for a total of 15 minutes or more) with someone who has COVID-19, unless you have been fully vaccinated. People who are fully vaccinated do NOT need to quarantine after contact with someone who had COVID-19 unless they have symptoms.
- Stay home for 14 days after your last contact with a person who has COVID-19.
Watch for fever (100.4ā—¦F), cough, shortness of breath, or other symptoms of COVID-19.
If possible, stay away from people you live with, especially people who are at higher risk for getting very sick from COVID-19.

9. You isolate when you have been infected with the virus, even if you don’t have symptoms.
- People who are in isolation should stay home until it’s safe for them to be around others.

Few Facts:
1. You can't get COVID-19 from any of the vaccines. None of the vaccines available to the public contain the live virus that causes COVID-19. They may cause minor side effects such as a sore arm or mild fever. This is a sign that the vaccine is working.
2. There is no evidence to suggest that COVID-19 can spread through mosquito bites. COVID-19 spreads mainly through droplets produced when an infected person coughs, sneezes or talks. It can also spread if you touch an infected surface and then touch your eyes, nose or mouth. To protect yourself, clean your hands often and disinfect frequently touched surfaces at home.
3. There is no evidence to suggest that COVID-19 can spread through houseflies. COVID-19 spreads mainly through droplets produced when an infected person coughs, sneezes or talks. It can also spread if you touch an infected surface and then touch your eyes, nose or mouth. To protect yourself, clean your hands often and disinfect frequently touched surfaces at home.
4. People of all ages can be infected by the COVID-19 virus. People who are 60 or over and those with conditions like asthma, diabetes and heart disease are at higher risk of becoming severely ill. Everyone should practice prevention measures like cleaning your hands regularly and keeping a safe distance from others.
The need for a COVID-19 vaccine was urgent, so governments and companies spent much more money to develop it. Research and development took place at the same time around the world while still following strict safety and clinical standards. This allowed for faster vaccine development, but doesn't make the studies any less rigorous or the vaccine any less safe.

Who we are?

I’m Dr. Kathia Ortiz-Cantillo a Pulmonary, Sleep and Critical Care board certified physician. I’ll start with a little background on myself. My family is originally from Barranquilla, Colombia, which is a beautiful city on the water that is similar in size and weather to Jacksonville. Barranquilla throws one of the largest carnivals in the world and it is an incredible sight to behold—amazing food, colors and people, so if you ever find yourself in Colombia…get to the Carnival, and you can thank me later!

I’ve spent most of my medical career in Chicago—which is really cold--and I mean 22 degrees below zero cold--so there was only a matter of time before I made my way down to this perfect weather…so here I am!

I am enamored by the authenticity and warmth of the people in this community and have been inspired to do my part by opening an office to continue caring for them.

At this time I’ll give you a brief description of what I do at Amelia Respiratory and Sleep Medicine LLC
