Another lip enhancement today. Notice the subtle change in shape and volume. Lip enhancement performed properly will look natural.

Lip size must be proportional to the rest of the face. Even a patient’s height and size of feminine body features can dictate how large the lips can be and still look natural.

If you are going to an injector that sells filler by the syringe this might be a mistake. In fact, I give my filler away free! I never measure how much filler I use. I use as much or little as I need to create a beautiful result that my patients will love.

CHEMICAL PEELS WORK- Dr. Hal London

This old fashioned treatment is as good as most of the over-hyped newer modalities. I’ve been doing chemical peels on my patients for 14 years and still love the results.

Peels help remove dark spots and fine lines, improve texture, and give the skin glow. They are comparable to light laser treatments but are less expensive.

Peels are one of the best acne treatments available and I do them on my patients frequently for just that reason. There is no real age limit for chemical peels and my teenage acne sufferers can attest to the effectiveness of this time tested treatment.

This is my patient on day 3 after her TCA 20% peel. Notice the bronze color of the skin before it peels off. The pink skin underneath can be seen in the area that has freshly peeled. FACIAL ENHANCEMENT 3-23-25 Dr. Hal London

Another subtle, natural looking enhancement, a great example of what to do and what NOT to do. Please allow me to explain.

Carefully study the before treatment photo without studying the after photo. During my consults I look for areas of the face to treat and importantly, what areas to avoid. Start with areas of her face look that great already. Why fix something not broken right?

Starting from her forehead, would you agree that her brows look fabulous, have nice elevation and shape? She already has β€œ high cheek bones” and her lips still have volume. All nice features, yes?

Now, what areas of her face could benefit from a little enhancement?
The under eyes appear hollow and have β€œ dark circles” adding age to her face. Her mid-face has lost volume creating the β€œfallen face” look, making her look sad and older than her years. Her mouth corners are downturned increasing the sad, angry look. Her chin is a bit wide and flat( a more masculine look).

Want to ruin a face? Add too much toxin in her forehead to drop her brows and hood her eyelids. Add more filler over her cheek bones to make her look alien or feline. Fill her under eyes improperly and see the bluish colored lumps of filler. How about blow up her lips so they look bee-stung? Patient satisfaction score in negative numbers for sure.

SINGLE SESSION ENHANCEMENT- Dr. Hal London

I would estimate the split is 50/50 between those patients of mine who want to get it all done in one session vs those who want or need to do it in split sessions.

I’m fine piecing it together but the overall results might be different if the treatments are spaced too far apart. Allow me to explain.

Enhancing the mid-face, primarily the cheeks and nasolabial folds, has an immediate effect (improvement) on the lower face. That’s why I always start in the midface. It’s possible that less enhancement will be needed in the lower face once the mid-face is addressed. Same situation for the under eyes.

That said, not every patient can afford to enhance the upper,mid, and lower face at one session and I totally understand that. I can make it work very well piecing it together as long as the time between sessions is not too long. That way the overall effect will be global enhancement, not piecemeal improvements.

Another example of treatment of the lower face. Marionette lines or folds are extremely common, but thankfully easily treated.

Strategically placed filler in the proper amount does a great job in softening these lines. Results last about a year.

MINOR SURGERY- Dr. Hal London

Easy 10 min procedure to remove unsightly skin blemishes. It’s called a shave excision.

Simply involves numbing the area with local anesthesia, carefully shaving off the skin lesion and finally cauterizing the surface so it won’t grow back. Done.

Can be performed on any part of the body. Growths suspicious for skin cancer will be sent for pathological analysis.

Unfortunately many dermatologists will remove skin growths leaving permanent scars. The growth may be gone but the scar remains as a reminder that it should have been done with a bit more precision and attention to scar prevention.

Before and 1 week after photo of a simple facial skin growth removed by shave excision. All that is left is a little pink skin where the growth was removed. The color will normalize in a couple weeks. In 6 months it will be difficult to see where the original growth was. Nice.

Most filler treatments can be repeated about every 6-12 months. Cheeks maybe twice a year, lips no more than once a year( if at desired size), etched frown lines about every 5 years, marionette lines and nasolabial folds about once a year. More often than that and I’m looking for an excuse to not treat. Sounds bad for business right? Exactly the opposite.

My patients are my calling cards. How they look reflect on my judgement and skills.
What I see too much of are patients with money to spend wanting more when they don’t need it. Body dysmorphia is real and my job is to stop patients from hurting themselves aesthetically.

She’s a little swollen in the photo( resolves in a couple days) but you get the idea. She is two years older in the second photo but a little touch up keeps the clock from moving forward.

Sneaky little changes that even your significant other might not detect. That’s what I like.

After initial swelling and maybe slight bruising, enhancements done conservatively and with taste should be undetectable by strangers and barely perceived by your close associates.

That’s not a fail after spending a considerable sum, that’s a win. Your results will certainly be appreciated by you, but others will just think you are aging slower than them and will want to know your secret. (You can give them my business card)

Enhancements that are painfully obvious indeed are a fail and I see them in far too many patients who go to other practitioners.

Every day I find myself saying things like,β€œyou don’t need that”, β€œ if you fill your upper lip more you will look wierd”, β€œ more Botox in the forehead will drop your brow and you will hate it”, β€œ I’ll give you enough( filler or toxin) now and if you need more in 2 weeks it will be free”, β€œ your skin is already beautiful, you don’t need a laser, save your money”.

I have been a doctor for many years. Money doesn’t motivate me and I won’t do a procedure because I can do it and you can afford it. That’s where patients at other practices get in trouble. It’s up to the doctor to say no in many cases and I say no a lot.

His medical spa facility, London Medical Spa, which he established in 2012, is located in an 1880’s restored Victorian residence in historic downtown Fernandina Beach. Even with a thriving practice Dr. London also finds time to perform as the drummer for the area’s top rock band, the Amelia Island-based Honey Badgers.
