🌱 How to Choose a Healthier Tea at the Grocery Store

✨ Choose plastic-free tea bags
Look for bags made from unbleached plant fibers (abacá, manila h**p, or wood pulp). Skip “silky” or mesh bags — those are usually plastic.
✨ Prefer unbleached + compostable
Unbleached paper means fewer chemicals. Compostable = no plastic sealants.
✨ Go organic when you can
Organic teas have lower pesticide residues and often higher antioxidant content.
✨ Check for non-GMO
Non-GMO + organic is the cleanest combo for purity and farming practices.
✨ Loose-leaf = cleanest option
No bag = no microplastics. Use a stainless steel or glass infuser.
✨ Easy brand picks
Numi, Pukka, Yogi, Republic of Tea, Stash, and Traditional Medicinals all offer plastic-free + organic options.

Is the Switch Witch coming to your house this weekend? 🧙‍♀️ Maybe she will bring some of these healthy choices to trade! 😋

It’s that time of year again. I know y’all see the aisles & aisles of Halloween candy at the store. 🙈🫠

We all know candy is not the best for us for many reasons but do we really know what’s in these popular candies that makes them so detrimental to our kiddo’s immune systems?

3 of the most common additives in candy are: ⬇️
👻 RED40
🎃 tertiary butylhydroquinone (TBHQ)
👻 butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT)

This ghoulish trio has repeatedly been linked to a wide range of potential health harms..

😷 RED40- this is the most popular & widely used artificial dye in candy & food products alike. This dye has been found to often be contaminated with benzidine & other carcinogens. Both adults and children have reported an upset stomach, migraines, jitteriness, nervousness, and inability to concentrate after consuming red dye 40. The CSPI released a report that says artificial food dyes pose a high number of risks to human health, including everything from allergies to potentially cancer.

😷 TBHQ is a food preservative (considered a CARCINOGEN) that prolongs the shelf life of candies and snacks such as Reese’s, Pop-Tarts, Cheez-Its and more than a thousand other processed candies & foods. TBHQ harms the immune system, causes vision disruptions, nausea, vomiting, delirium, ringing in the ears & respiratory complications.

😷 BHT, used in Rice Krispies Treats and Charms Blow Pops was deemed “safe” by the FDA however was proven to cause cancer in animals. It also acts as an endocrine disruptor in humans.

🤯 You guys, that’s only touching 3 of the most common ingredients in candy! I didn’t even mention high fructose corn syrup, artificial dyes, sweeteners, & preservatives.

👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 Lucky for you guys, we did our research and fortunately have been able to find some healthier options for your family & your trick-or-treaters this Halloween!

We’ve added all of our top favorite candies to a list so that you can easily make the switch to much safer options! 👻🎃🖤🧡

Happy Halloween!! We hope everyone has a safe and spooky night. 👻
Check out these great tips from the American Heart Association for a mindful trick-or-treat night:

Fill up first. What kid doesn’t want to eat their favorite candy right when it goes into their trick-or-treat bag? Having a healthy meal BEFORE your kids go trick-or-treating can reduce their temptation to snack while walking or to overindulge because their tummies will be full.

Bag the monster bag. Choose or make a smaller collection container for your child and steer clear of the pillowcase method. If you encourage kids to only take one piece of candy from each house, they’ll be able to visit more houses in the neighborhood.

Get moving. Get some exercise by making Halloween a fun family activity. Walk instead of driving kids from house to house. Set a goal of how many houses or streets you’ll visit, or compete in teams to do as many as you can. Bring a bottle of water and a flashlight, and wear comfortable shoes for walking.

Look before you eat. Check expiration dates and inspect all edibles before allowing children to eat them. Don’t let children eat anything with questionable or unknown ingredients, especially if they have food allergies.

Have a plan. Halloween, and Eat Smart Month in November, can be a great time to talk with kids about moderation and making smart eating choices. Plan in advance how much candy they’ll be allowed to take at each house, keep and eat. If they’re old enough, let them help decide what to do with excess candy. See our suggestions later on in this article.
