❄️🚗 Cold Weather Driving Safety Tips

Winter weather can make driving conditions unpredictable and dangerous. Oak Park Public Safety reminds drivers to take extra precautions during cold and icy conditions.

• Slow down and increase following distance on icy or snow-covered roads
• Avoid sudden braking or sharp turns
• Keep your vehicle fueled and equipped with an emergency kit
• Clear all snow and ice from windows, mirrors, lights, and roofs before driving
• If possible, delay travel during severe weather

Your caution helps protect you and others on the road!

Such a very sad story. This is unfortunately one of those things that happen much too often by those with the very best intentions. We always talk about scene safety in trainings for this very reason. This boy and his family are in our thoughts and hopes for a quick recovery.

A 16-year-old boy remains in intensive care at Corewell Health Hospital in Dearborn after being struck by a vehicle while helping a stranded motorist on Christmas Eve in Dearborn Heights.

A Grosse Pointe Farms man’s stroke could have turned tragic if not for a fortunate accident location and quick-acting emergency medical technicians who helped turn his medical emergency into what his family now calls their “Christmas miracle.” (Link in comments)
