Trigger Warning ‼️ Birth Injury

🚨🚨🚨 TRIGGER WARNING - Birth injury

In a shocking article published by a mom says she was left alone for five hours while in labor. Then her son was born with a skull fracture and brain bleed.

"Going to the hospital, the 33-year-old tells PEOPLE that her water was "very clearly broken," but she alleges that when it came time to do a cervical exam, she was told there were no gloves in the exam room, and a shift change would be coming soon."

Originally scheduled for a c-section for twins, her water broke prior to the scheduled date.

Despite notifying staff that her contractions were 5 minutes apart, she was left to labor for five hours without being assessed. Two "more urgent" c-sections went before her, leaving her waiting completely alone and without assessment.

"Her husband, whom Hainley refers to as her "support person," was allegedly not allowed to come to the pre-op area with her and was only brought back to the operating room after she was cut open."

"After the baby was delivered, Hainley claims that the OBGYN never explained what happened, and it was only when her son was in the NICU that she was asked if there were any complications to explain her son's injuries. He was ultimately born with skull fractures and brain bleeds "due to birth injury," according to medical records reviewed by PEOPLE."

Memorial Health University Medical Center denies any wrongdoing.

Without being a physician or directly involved in care, we can't say whether staff delays caused injury. What we can say, without a doubt, is NO ONE should be left to labor alone for FIVE HOURS.

According to the article, mom repeatedly asked staff for updates, but she remained laboring without her husband and without any hands on assessments.

EVERYONE deserves to walk into any birthing facility and receive safe, evidence-based, and dignified care. And it is the responsibility of facilities to do that. Unfortunately, this doesn't always occur. Until this is a guarantee, families are left to self advocate, research facilities and options, etc.,

We wish this family healing and support as they navigate moving forward from unnecessary trauma. Article below.

April is Cesarean Awareness Month ✨

April is cesarean awareness month. Giving birth via a c-section is not easy! As doulas, we understand the sacrifice parents make when they must have a surgical birth to safely bring their babies earthside.

Why awareness? Because it is important people understand how transformative birth is, including c-section birth.

All birth has the potential to be positive and empowering, including c-section birth. This is why prenatal support and birth doula support are still important for c-section parents.

One of our instructors, is supporting a scheduled c-section client today.

Indonesia’s massive deforestation project is devastating vital forests to produce bioethanol fuel, sugar, and rice — but the cost is far greater than just environmental. This large-scale destruction threatens biodiversity, accelerates climate change, and displaces Indigenous communities.

Meanwhile, Indonesia continues its illegal occupation of West Papua, suppressing the rights and voices of the native Papuan people. The exploitation of natural resources and the ongoing human rights abuses are deeply connected, showing a pattern of disregard for both the environment and Indigenous sovereignty.

It’s time to raise global awareness and demand justice for West Papua and protection for Indonesia’s remaining forests. Our planet and its people deserve better.

Indonesia plans to clear forests about the size of Belgium to produce sugarcane-derived bioethanol, rice and other food crops, potentially displacing Indigenous groups who rely on the land to survive.

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) affects people of all ages, including many in our Pacific Islander community, where rates of heart disease and stroke are higher than average. When our hearts, brains, or blood vessels don’t work properly, it can lead to serious, life-threatening complications.

The good news? Up to 80% of heart attacks and strokes can be prevented with the right steps. 💓

Let’s raise awareness in our community and share life-saving interventions that make a difference. Together, we can protect our families and future generations.

Autism Awareness Month

A 2009 research study indicated that mothers of adolescents and adults with autism experience chronic stress comparable to combat soldiers and struggle with frequent fatigue and work interruptions.

These moms also spend significantly more time caregiving than moms of those without disabilities.

Researchers followed a group of moms of adolescents and adults with autism for eight days in a row. Moms were interviewed at the end of each day about their experiences and on four of the days researchers measured the moms’ hormone levels to assess their stress.

They found that a hormone associated with stress was extremely low, consistent with people experiencing chronic stress such as soldiers in combat.

“This is the physiological residue of daily stress,” says Marsha Mailick Seltzer, a researcher at the University of Wisconsin-Madison who authored the studies. “The mothers of children with high levels of behavior problems have the most pronounced physiological profile of chronic stress, but the long-term effect on their physical health is not yet known.”

These findings were published in the Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders.
