Coming in at number 8 for the most reported dog pet poison incident of 2025 was Ma*****na 🪴

Alternate Names for Ma*****na:
THC, Cannabis, pot, hashish, pot brownies, w**d, grass, Mary Jane, reefers, h**p, devil w**d, pot butter

Why is Ma*****na toxic to dogs?
Ma*****na is toxic to dogs because they’re far more sensitive to THC than people, and even small exposures can affect their nervous system. Dogs often develop wobbliness, disorientation, dribbling urine, vomiting, and extreme sleepiness. In more serious cases, they may experience tremors, low heart rate, or low body temperature. Edibles are especially risky because they often contain chocolate or xylitol as well—both dangerous on their own.

Coming in at number 9 for the most reported dog pet poison incident of 2025 was Long-acting Anticoagulants 🐀

Alternate Names for Long-acting Anticoagulants: mouse and rat poison, anticoagulants, brodifacoum, d-Con, Vitamin K, difethialone, bromadiolone, warfarin, diphacinone, chlorophacinone

Why are Long-Acting Anticoagulants toxic to dogs?
Long‑acting anticoagulants are dangerous to dogs because they stop the blood from clotting, leading to slow, hidden internal bleeding that may not show signs for 3–5 days. Affected dogs can develop lethargy, coughing, pale gums, weakness, or trouble breathing as bleeding builds up in the chest or abdomen. All forms of LAAC rodenticides are serious, and some (like brodifacoum) can be toxic in very small amounts. Fortunately, there is an antidote—Vitamin K1—but treatment typically lasts about a month and requires follow‑up clotting tests to ensure the dog is truly safe.

Please be patient — our newest receptionist, Lady J, is still learning the system. So far, she’s mastered greeting guests with a smile, boosting morale, and staring directly into your soul until you pay her in biscuits or a belly rub. 😂☎️👩🏼‍💻

Starting off the list in the number 10 spot for the most reported dog pet poison incident of 2025 was Acetaminophen 💊

Alternate Names for Acetaminophen: Tylenol, paracetamol, APAP, Percocet, Panadol, Excedrin, Feverall

Why is Acetaminophen toxic to dogs?
Acetaminophen is dangerous to dogs because they have a much narrower safety margin than people, and their liver can’t process the drug efficiently. Even relatively small amounts can damage the liver and interfere with the blood’s ability to carry oxygen. Affected dogs may develop lethargy, vomiting, facial swelling, breathing difficulty, or discolored gums. Because signs can escalate quickly and the toxic dose varies by size and health status, any exposure should be treated as an emergency.
