Anxiety and tension may take many different forms and affect our minds, bodies, and spirits with unique challenges for each individual. Three of the most common places to experience the physical or mental impacts of anxiety are the mind, the heart, and the gut—often more than one at the same time.
Thank goodness for herbs, which have the ability to restore balance and calm tension in various areas of the body according to what you need in the moment. Whether you experience racing, worrisome thoughts, difficult or uncomfortable digestion, or a nervous, fluttering heart, this blend can help nourish and calm each of these wise centers of our being.
These herbs are multitasking superstars, accomplishing the goals of settling butterflies in the stomach, brain, and chest all at once. Motherwort soothes tension in the heart caused by stress while bringing anxious thoughts down a notch. Skullcap can help to calm mental agitation and racing thoughts. Chamomile eases anxiety and tension while also soothing digestive upset due to stress. Rose lightens the heart while also taking a load off the bogged down mind.
CALMING QUARTET TENSION TEA
1 part skullcap (Scutellaria lateriflora)
1 part chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla) flowers
½ part motherwort (Leonurus cardiaca) aerial parts
½ part rose (Rosa spp.) petals
All herbs are dried, and each “part” can be whatever size measure corresponds to the size of the batch you would like to make - 1 teaspoon, 1 tablespoon, 1 cup, etc. Brew 1 tablespoon to 8 oz water and steep covered for 5 minutes. Add a sprig or pinch of mint or ginger to this lovely blend for fun and flavor, and add your favorite milk and sweetener for a tension-taming treat. 🍵🤗
