In these divided times, it can be easy to succumb to all of the negativity we hear on the news, around the watercooler (oh wait... the water cooler is cordoned off with police tape due to Covid), and in the 972,648 times we check social media each day.

It's easy to fall into this negativity trap for insurance folks as well... skyrocketing medical costs, higher and higher deductibles, and cost-sharing that pushes higher and higher limits each year are taxing families' incomes. Yep, there's a lot of negative insurance talk about "preparing for the worst" out there.

But SOME coverages, like short term disability, can help with things that are joyous as well! With the right policy in place, an employee can give birth to a child and still have income while they are in those critical first few weeks of bonding between a parent and a newborn, without having to focus on getting right back to work so bills can be paid.

A lot of employers celebrate families and talk about how the company is family-focused, but lack important and amazing coverages like this in their employee benefits offering. A lot of agents push products that frankly are garbage because they've been promised a vacation if they sell 100 of a certain type of policy by a carrier.

They ignore what their customer needs, which coverages would add value to their life, and what they can actually afford.

There was a time that those of us in business couldn't imagine life without the BlackBerry. It was sleek, powerful, and felt like a part of your body somedays!

10 years later, I'm not even sure if they sell new ones anymore. They still do everything they promised they would do in 2010, but other competitors have put out more useful products at the same or lower cost. Frankly, the BlackBerry is antiquated in 2020.

Insurance is the same way...there are a lot of changes that have happened in the last 10 years! If your current broker or carrier hasn't presented different options over the last few years, you may be using an insurance BlackBerry and not even realize it!
