🚗💡 CarFit Comes to Saraland, Alabama! 💡🚗

Residents at AHEPA 310 IV Apartments in Saraland participated in an engaging CarFit session in collaboration with students from the Occupational Therapy Department at The University of South Alabama.

During the hands-on event, students conducted personalized vehicle assessments to help residents drive safely and confidently — reviewing accessibility features, identifying potential modifications, and sharing best practices for safe driving.

The experience provided valuable insights for residents while giving students the opportunity to apply their skills in a real-world setting, fostering meaningful connection and community support.

CarFit is an educational program developed by AARP and the American Occupational Therapy Association - AOTA.

🚒🔥 Fire Safety Education in Des Moines 🔥🚒

Residents at AHEPA 192 Phase IV Apartments gathered in the community room to meet with a representative from the Des Moines Fire Department for an important fire safety presentation.

Residents learned the proper steps to take when a fire alarm sounds, asked questions directly to a fire safety professional, and gained a better understanding of the property’s safety features.

The fire department also provided helpful resources, including magnets for residents who use oxygen to place outside their apartment doors, as well as magnets with safe kitchen tips.

A total of 33 residents, along with all three staff members, attended this informative and engaging session.

🌟❤️ “Grandparents Are Our Heroes” in Mobile, Alabama ❤️🌟

Amberly Hardy, a 5th grader at Dodge Elementary School, chose AHEPA 310 VI Apartments in Mobile, Alabama for her community service project titled “Grandparents Are Our Heroes.”

As a Red Ribbon Community Hero, Amberly collected donations from her family and school to provide residents with activity supplies including coloring books, crossword puzzles, activity books, crayons, colored pencils, pencils, and pens.

Our residents were thrilled to receive the thoughtful gifts and are excited to begin their next projects!

Bravo, Amberly, and thank you for bringing kindness and creativity to our community and for recognizing the importance of intergenerational connectivity! 💙

🩺📚 Health, Preparedness, and Education in Albuquerque!

Residents at AHEPA 501 I & II Apartments in Albuquerque, New Mexico recently participated in several valuable educational and preventative programs designed to support healthy living and informed decision-making.

🔹 GEHM (Geriatric Education and Health Maintenance) Clinic
Steph, a nurse from the University of New Mexico College of Nursing, hosted the first of several planned health clinics where residents received wellness screenings and personalized health education.

🔹 “Be Red Cross Ready” Preparedness Course
Jaimi Mueller from the American Red Cross led a session focused on extreme weather preparedness and safety strategies to help residents stay informed and protected.

🔹 Medicare 101 Educational Session
Adolfo Guerra from the Senior Health Resource Center and Adrian Montes from Oak Street Health provided helpful information about Medicare, answered residents’ questions, and shared refreshments and educational materials.

Programs like these empower residents with knowledge, support preventive care, and strengthen community connections.
