☕👮‍♂️ Breakfast with a Cop in Des Moines 👮‍♂️☕

Residents at AHEPA 192 IV gathered in the community room to enjoy breakfast, socialize, and meet with officers from the Des Moines Police Department.

The event gave residents the opportunity to ask questions, have one-on-one conversations with officers, and learn more about local safety — all while connecting with neighbors and strengthening community bonds. 💙

January was full of connection and engagement at AHEPA Penelope District One Apartments! Here are a few highlights from the month:

🎉 New Year & January Birthdays Celebration – Residents came together for a combined New Year’s and January birthdays luncheon filled with good food and great company.

🛒 Weekly Grocery Support – Residents sincerely appreciate the ongoing weekly grocery distribution generously provided by Trader Joe's.

👮‍♂️ Personal & Community Safety – Residents enjoyed a lively and informative discussion with Officer Brian Hale of the Hoover (AL) Police Department, focused on personal awareness and community safety.

💊 Medication Management – A helpful session with Mills Pharmacy provided guidance on safe and effective medication management.

It’s been a busy and engaging January at AHEPA 250 Phase II! Here are a few highlights from the month:

👮‍♂️ Coffee with a Cop – Residents enjoyed a well-attended community conversation with local police and animal control, including safety tips and community engagement opportunities. Dog Officer Hodges was a crowd favorite and brought plenty of smiles to the room! 🐶 A special thanks to Starbucks for donating coffee! ☕

🧠 Healthy Aging & Safety Resources – Residents learned about dementia care, veteran services, advance directives, Medicare savings, and innovative safety tools that support independence and peace of mind.

🍞 Sharing Goodness – We’re grateful to a resident’s family member for donating fresh bread each week — a simple act of kindness that means so much.

🎭 Wicked at the Movies – A big thank-you to our team for organizing a special movie experience, complete with snacks and great company.

❤️🤝 Communities Supporting Communities 🤝❤️

AHEPA Senior Living communities across Indiana — including Penelope 60 (Mishawaka), AHEPA 100 (South Bend), and all six phases of AHEPA 78 in Merrillville — came together to organize a donation drive for residents of Hellenic Senior Living of Elkhart following the recent water main break that caused temporary displacement.

Residents generously donated, and staff chipped in to make this contribution a well-deserved gift of care, solidarity, and support — from us to them. Moments like these remind us that we are strongest when we stand together. 💙

ICYMI - AHEPA Senior Living has opened our second South Bend community! AHEPA 100 Phase II Apartments, a 72-unit affordable senior housing community will provide safe, dignified, and service-enriched housing for very low-income seniors age 62 and older under the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Section 202 Supportive Housing for the Elderly program.

Residents at AHEPA 39 in Haverhill were surprised and delighted by a visit from TV and radio entertainer Tom Bergeron!

Over coffee and conversation, the day was filled with laughter, smiles, and good humor — bringing warmth and joy to residents on a gloomy, icy New England morning. Best known as the former host of Dancing with the Stars, Bergeron’s visit helped lift spirits and ease feelings of isolation, reminding us how powerful simple connection can be. 💙

Residents gathered on New Year’s Eve--the community's first--to watch the Iowa Hawkeyes in the ReliaQuest Bowl during a resident-led celebration. From planning and setup to tacos, potatoes, and shared desserts, neighbors came together to cheer, share food, and ring in the New Year together.
