Legacy Hospice

Legacy Hospice At Legacy Hospice you are a person not a patient. We provide care to all age groups during the final stages of life.

You will have an experienced team of physicians, registered nurses, certified nurse aides, medical social workers, counselors, and trained volunteers available to help you and your family manage your illness. Your physician and Legacy will work with you to set up a comprehensive plan of care to manage your symptoms and assess the needs of your family. Your family or another caregiver will be with

you, and members of our team will make regular visits to ensure your comfort. A nurse and a physician are on-call 24 hours a day, seven days a week to give you and your family support and care when you need it.

Administrative Professionals keep our world organized and running smoothly. A strong administrative coordinator is essential to streamlining day-to-day operations.

Legacy Hospice would like to say a huge THANK YOU to our Administrative Office Coordinators for their hard work and dedication to our patients and team.

💜⭐ Celebrating Our Volunteers ⭐💜

Our Harrisonburg Office hosted a “Morning of Movement” at Orangetheory Fitness Harrisonburg. Together, we reinforced an important reminder: caring for ourselves is essential to sustaining compassionate care for others.

We wrapped up the workout with guided breathing exercises and left knowing simple, practical tools to use when facing anxiety, stress, or moments of being overwhelmed.

It was meaningful to see our volunteers and staff invest in their own well-being, and we truly enjoyed spending time together as a team.

Special thanks to Orange Theory Fitness-Harrisonburg and Kim for the custom workout for our team!

This week we celebrate National Volunteer Week and the incredible individuals who give their time, compassion, and hearts to our patients and families.

Hospice volunteers are truly the heart of what we do. Whether they are offering companionship, providing respite for caregivers, sitting vigil, assisting with administrative support, or sharing special talents, their presence brings comfort during life’s most meaningful moments.

A simple visit. A listening ear. A gentle hand to hold.

These acts of kindness make a lasting difference.

To our volunteers — thank you for the countless hours you give and the lives you touch. Your compassion reflects the very spirit of hospice care.

If you feel called to make a difference in someone’s life, we would love to connect with you. 💙

Join us celebrating 50 years of recognizing the impact that volunteers have in our communities. This year we are 🔦Shining a Light on the People and Causes the Inspire Us 🔦

On National Arbor Day, we pause to reflect on the lasting impact of life and the renewal that nature provides. In partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation, we plant a tree in memory of each patient we have had the honor of caring for. This creates a living tribute that will flourish for generations to come.

These trees not only beautify our surroundings but also support wildlife, improve air quality, and contribute to a healthier planet. More importantly, they serve as a symbol of remembrance, offering comfort to families and ensuring that the legacy of their loved ones continues to grow.

⭐ Celebrating Volunteer Month ⭐
..includes past volunteers!

Today we spotlight Addison, a past Legacy volunteer...fast forward and she is graduating from Edward via College of Osteopathic Medicine - Virginia campus (VCOM) on May 8 and will start Residency at Mary Washington Hospital in Anesthesia. Pictured is her March Day photo! Addison was also the recipient of this $10,000 award/recognition from the AMA Research Challenge.

Addison always knew she wanted to be in medicine but says the Legacy experience when she was an undergraduate at Eastern Mennonite University provided her interactions with patients that confirmed she was on the right path.

Today we recognize World Parkinson's Day 💙

This day brings awareness to Parkinson’s disease — a progressive neurological condition that affects movement, speech, and daily life for millions of individuals and families around the world.

At Legacy Hospice, we understand that Parkinson’s doesn’t just impact one person — it touches spouses, children, caregivers, and entire support systems. As the disease advances, care needs can become more complex, and families often feel overwhelmed navigating what comes next.

Hospice care can provide comfort-focused support, symptom management, emotional guidance, and dignity during advanced stages of Parkinson’s. Our team walks alongside families to ensure no one faces this journey alone.

Today, we stand in support of those living with Parkinson’s and the caregivers who show up with strength and love every single day.

If you have questions about advanced Parkinson’s care or hospice support, we’re here to help. 💙

Reminder: Our medical directors can work alongside the attending physician

At Legacy Hospice, our care team includes experienced and dedicated medical directors who provide clinical leadership and guidance to ensure the highest quality of care throughout the end-of-life journey. We also respect the important relationship you have with your attending physician, who has been part of your care along the way. If you choose, we will work closely with your physician to support a smooth and coordinated transition to hospice services. Our priority is to provide care that brings you and your family comfort, confidence, and peace of mind.
