Wellness Wednesday
Vitamin D. is an essential, fat soluble vitamin. It is important in bone growth, as well as reducing inflammation, glucose metabolism, and immune function, as well as a possible cause of depression.
It occurs naturally in only a few foods and is often added to other food thorugh a fortification process. The other main source of Vitamin D is through sun exposure, which trigger Vitamin D synthesis in the skin.
It is important note that due to its fat solubility, it is possible to have too much Vitamin D in your system so it is mportant to get your levels checked during blood tests. Experts recommend a Vitamin D blood level of 50-70 ng/mL for optimal function. The next time you have blood work done, ask for Vitamin D levels to be checked to see if you could benefit form supplementation!
