Invest in riding lessons.
I learned how to ride from my buddy in elementary school on his YZ80. He showed me where the controls were, I put on his helmet, crashed several times and eventually got the hang of getting from one place to another. I hate to admit it but I think that’s how I continued to progress. I would ride with guys who were ‘fast’ and I would either ask them what they were doing or watch, try, crash or get the hang of it. Looking back, it’s kind of an insane way to learn but I think it’s really how most people ‘learn to ride’.
I took my first riding lessons when I decided to work with dirt bike riders. I knew that I needed to know correct riding form if I was going to help people get into the correct positions.
It took some humility to admit that maybe I didn’t know how to ride. And it felt like a waste of money to pay someone to teach me something I ‘already knew’.
I pushed through those thoughts and booked my first riding lesson with Ryan Wells of Arizona Dirtbike Training.
My bike fell off my bumper on the way there (one of many things Ryan would teach me was how to secure my bike using a bumper carrier).

I will just say that learning from Ryan was a blast. He taught me the foundation of riding correctly. The bike was way more predictable, I wasn’t as tired and I was way faster. The little kid in me was very happy.

I have since taken many more lessons. I have taken lessons from Drake Hacker (through Az Dirtbike Training), Max Gerston, and even Graham Jarvis.

I think riding lessons are the best use of your money and time if you are interested in riding or improving your riding. I think it’s important that you have good chemistry with the instructor because you need to be able to ask questions etc. Max Gerston and Ryan Wells both offer rental bikes etc if you are interested in riding but not ready to make the purchase of a bike etc.

I hope this helps!

Riding is an amazing experience

I want to share something that is critical for riding: move forward with acceleration, and move backwards with breaking. If you don’t then the bike will be incredibly unpredictable and this can be a very unforgiving lesson. In my biomechanical analysis of top riders, they all do this. But in my analysis of riders who crash a lot or feel exhausted from riding, they are not following this technique correctly.
One way to see how you are riding is to video yourself moving forward and backwards on your bike (with it on a stand). Then, compare how you look to that of a pro (like Ryan Wells). A couple of good landmarks are ni***es over the bars for acceleration, and hips over the rear wheel for breaking.
It’s a basic technique that is often overlooked when working on riding.

I hope this helps

I’m totally trashed after supporting a team in the Baja 1,000.
It’s one thing to sit through a lecture about the effects of stress hormones and sleep deprivation but it’s another thing to experience it!
Statistically speaking, I’m more likely to get sick now than during the event because my immune system is run down. If you are done with an event it’s important to stay away from sick people (especially if you got injured ), take a 20 minute nap in afternoon , go for a walk or bicycle ride and try to get some vitamin C in you. Gentle lower trunk rotations are one of my favorite exercises for my back.

Recovery is an important part of preparing for the next race !

Baja 1,000 is an amazing experience . So honored to support Terry Webb and team Baja Bound.

Baja Night shift

It’s 10:07PM, bikes are about 1,000 miles into it, and I am monitoring radios, SCORE international and giving updates to the teams. Terry Webb will get the bike sometime tomorrow if all goes well.
It’s hard for the guys waiting to ride because they need to rest but it’s so easy to get caught up in watching the race .
Steve Hatch told me to make sure they rest up or else when it’s their turn they will be exhausted .
I’ve learned so much and it’s been awesome to support these riders.

Packing up and heading towards the race with Terry Webb.

Seeing Terry take off into the darkness and all we can do is hope we see him at the designated stop. We waited a long time for him to show but we were happy to see him come in. He had some gates to open (and close) then rip it through deep silt but he made it. Then a three hour drive back to home base. We learned a lot about the equipment and the track. Terry is feeling good about the race.

It takes motivation in order to have the discipline to take care of the body. Riding is my motivation for taking care of myself.

Terry has been training hard, getting sponsors , working insane hours at power plant, and doing a ton of bike suspensions for his business TBT Suspensions. I’m so proud to support this team ! I’m going as head medic, head chef, assistant bike mechanic and chase truck driver !

Are you getting ready for Baja? And I don’t mean vacation ….

After meeting with Steve Hatch and Terry Webb I have an under rated tip that can make a big difference on your performance at the Baja 1,000. Welcome to the Tip of the Day.

😴 Sleep. With all the excitement and crazy amount of things to do leading up to the race it’s easy to discount sleep. Most research states men have to have about 7 hours of sleep, women need about 8 to 9 hours. It will make your reactions faster, better decision making, and improve your endurance. Why spend so much time and money preparing the bike etc just to blow it due to poor sleep?

Come back tomorrow for another great tip. See you out there!

My dad told me, “shoot for the moon, because even if you don’t make it , you still be among the stars.”
Having our Logo Wingman Physical Therapy next to AZ Dirt Bike Training, TBT Racing etc. is an incredible honor .
Thank you Andre Moore for being the first to carry our Logo!
