From the book "The Mind Illuminated": "What we make of our life – the sum total of thoughts, emotions, words, and actions that fill the brief interval between birth and death – is our one great creative masterpiece." The book is written by John Yates, PhD. He is in neuroscience professor and it is fascinating how that knowledge affects how he talks about meditation. Meditation does affect neural circuitry. But many people with serious depression or anxiety have a very hard time starting a meditation practice. TMS can affect neuralplasticity without so much struggle and effort when people have more serious mental illness. My recent exposure to a lot more neuroscience related to TMS just makes the whole field of plasticity and neuronal circuitry absolutely fascinating.

ABC reported on a VA study on TMS for depression.

Doctors at Charleston's VA say they are testing a way to cure depression and prevent suicides without surgery. The three-year study at the Ralph H. Johnson VA is in the home stretch and the results have been positive.
