Many ear, nose, and throat symptoms can start small but become more persistent over time. When symptoms continue or interfere with daily life, evaluation by an ENT specialist may be helpful.

Common reasons patients seek ENT care include:

• Chronic sinus infections
• Persistent nasal congestion or difficulty breathing
• Recurrent ear infections
• Hearing loss or ringing in the ears
• Chronic throat discomfort or voice changes

An ENT specialist can evaluate these symptoms, identify underlying causes, and recommend appropriate treatment options.

If you’re experiencing ongoing ear, nose, or throat symptoms, schedule an evaluation by calling 928-773-2222 or visiting flagstaffsurgical.com.

Occasional heartburn is common, but persistent or frequent symptoms may indicate an underlying digestive condition such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).

GERD occurs when stomach acid repeatedly flows back into the esophagus, causing irritation and inflammation. Symptoms can include burning chest discomfort, difficulty swallowing, regurgitation, chronic cough, or throat irritation.

Over time, untreated reflux can lead to complications affecting the esophagus, which is why ongoing symptoms should be evaluated by a medical professional.

Lifestyle changes, medications, and in some cases specialized procedures may help manage symptoms and prevent complications.

If you experience frequent heartburn or digestive discomfort, call 928-773-2222 or visit flagstaffsurgical.com to schedule an evaluation.

Many people assume that a hernia will go away on its own, but in most cases, the opposite is true. Hernias occur when an internal organ or tissue pushes through a weakened area of muscle or connective tissue, often in the abdomen or groin. Over time, this weakness can gradually enlarge, allowing more tissue to protrude through the opening.

While some hernias may remain stable for a period of time, they typically do not resolve without treatment and can worsen if left untreated. Symptoms may include a visible bulge, discomfort when lifting or straining, or pressure in the affected area. In some cases, hernias can lead to complications if the protruding tissue becomes trapped.

Evaluation by a surgical specialist can help determine the best course of action and whether repair is recommended.

If you’re experiencing symptoms or notice a new bulge in your abdomen or groin, schedule an evaluation by calling 928-773-2222 or visiting flagstaffsurgical.com.

One of the most common mistakes people make after a car accident is not seeking medical care because they feel “okay” at first. Adrenaline can mask symptoms, and injuries such as internal bleeding, soft tissue damage, or organ injury may not be immediately obvious. Pain, dizziness, fatigue, or abdominal discomfort can develop hours or even days later.

Early evaluation after an accident helps identify hidden injuries, establish a clear baseline, and ensure that any needed care begins promptly. Even if symptoms seem mild, being checked can prevent complications and provide reassurance.

If you’ve been in a car accident and have concerns — now or in the days following — call 928-773-2222 or visit flagstaffsurgical.com to schedule an evaluation.

Symptoms often associated with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) — such as bloating, cramping, or changes in bowel habits — can overlap with other digestive conditions. While IBS is common, similar symptoms may sometimes signal issues that benefit from further evaluation.

Understanding the cause of ongoing digestive discomfort is the first step toward effective treatment and relief. Evaluation does not always mean surgery, but it does provide clarity and direction.

To schedule a digestive health evaluation, call 928-773-2222 ext. 8 or visit flagstaffsurgical.com.

Some of the most common surgical conditions - such as hernias, gallbladder disease, thyroid nodules, and colorectal concerns - can develop quietly over time. Many patients feel “mostly fine” and are surprised to learn that a condition has been progressing in the background.

Early evaluation allows for monitoring, education, and timely care, often before complications arise. In many cases, this can mean more treatment options and a smoother recovery.

Medical imaging helps providers understand what’s happening inside the body when symptoms alone don’t tell the full story. Different scans are used for different reasons, and each provides unique information that guides care.

➡️ Ultrasound uses sound waves to create images in real time. It is often used to evaluate the gallbladder, thyroid, soft tissues, blood flow, and abdominal organs. Ultrasound is noninvasive and does not use radiation, making it a common first step in evaluation.

➡️ CT scans (computed tomography) provide detailed cross-sectional images of the body. CT imaging is frequently used to assess abdominal pain, appendicitis, trauma, hernias, sinus conditions, and internal inflammation or infection. It allows providers to see organs, bones, and blood vessels clearly and quickly.

➡️ MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) uses magnetic fields to produce highly detailed images of soft tissues. MRI is often used when more precise imaging is needed for areas such as soft tissue structures, nerves, certain abdominal organs, or head and neck conditions. It does not use radiation and can be helpful when symptoms are complex or ongoing.

➡️ X-rays are commonly used to evaluate bones, lungs, and certain structural concerns. They may be part of trauma follow-up or used to rule out specific conditions quickly.

Imaging does not automatically mean surgery. In many cases, scans help rule out serious conditions, confirm a diagnosis, guide monitoring, or support non-surgical treatment options. When surgery is recommended, imaging helps ensure it is the safest and most appropriate choice.

If imaging has been recommended or you have questions about what a scan can show, our specialty providers are here to guide you through the process.

Seeing blood in the stool can be alarming, but it does not always mean a serious condition. In many cases, causes may be relatively common, such as hemorrhoids, fissures, or irritation of the digestive tract. The color, amount, and frequency of bleeding can offer important clues about where it’s coming from and what may be causing it.

That said, blood in the stool should never be ignored. Ongoing or unexplained bleeding can sometimes signal conditions that benefit from prompt evaluation, including infections, inflammatory conditions, polyps, or other gastrointestinal issues. Early follow-up helps determine the cause, rule out more serious concerns, and guide appropriate treatment.

If you notice blood in your stool or changes in bowel habits, scheduling an evaluation can provide clarity and peace of mind. Call 928-773-2222 ext. 8 or visit flagstaffsurgical.com to discuss next steps.

Appendicitis does not always start with severe pain. In many cases, early symptoms are mild and easy to dismiss, gradually progressing over time. Because appendicitis can become an emergency, persistent or worsening abdominal pain should never be ignored.

Prompt evaluation helps determine whether symptoms require monitoring, further testing, or immediate care. Early attention can make a significant difference.

If abdominal pain has been ongoing or changing, call 928-773-2222 or visit flagstaffsurgical.com to schedule an evaluation.

Internal bleeding isn’t always visible — and symptoms can be easy to miss at first. Warning signs may include unexplained or worsening abdominal pain, dizziness or fainting, unusual fatigue, shortness of breath, rapid heart rate, dark or bloody stools, vomiting blood, or bruising that appears without injury. After trauma, surgery, or a fall, these symptoms should never be ignored.

If you or someone you care for is experiencing concerning symptoms, prompt evaluation matters. Early assessment can be critical to identifying the cause and guiding appropriate care.
