Help fill a bus with hope! The City of Flagstaff, Coconino County and Mountain Line are teaming up to collect food and financial donations for the Flagstaff Family Food Center. The Stuff the Bus event will take place at the Safeway at 1201 S Plaza Way on Saturday, Nov. 8 from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Donations will also be accepted at the Safeway on Plaza Way on Sunday, Nov. 9 as well as at the Safeway at 1500 E Cedar Ave on Saturday and Sunday. Volunteers will have shopping lists available to indicate the food items of greatest need.

Community volunteers are also needed for this event. Volunteers will greet shoppers at the Safeway entrances, share information about the food drive and accept donations. Sign up to volunteer at https://hotfood.volunteermatters.org/project-catalog/56.

Every can, box or dollar given helps us ensure that families in our community can gather around the table with dignity this holiday season. For questions, please reach out to Adriana Salas, Flagstaff Family Food Center Development Director at adriana@hotfood.org.

Shocker: It takes far more energy to grow life than scientists once believed.

A Duke University study found that pregnancy rivals elite endurance events, making it the most energetically demanding activity the human body can sustain, equivalent to running a 40-week marathon.

Another peer-reviewed study published in Science found that pregnancy requires an additional 50,000 calories over nine months, with 96% of that energy coming directly from the mother. A woman’s resting energy use can rise by up to 30%, meaning her body works harder every single day, even at rest.

To put it in perspective, that’s like eating 50 pints of Ben & Jerry’s or sustaining the daily energy output of a Tour de France cyclist.

The energy it takes to grow life makes pregnancy one of the most extreme athletic feats on Earth. 🫶

Parenthood isn’t about raising reflections of ourselves. It’s about raising souls brave enough to outgrow us — to walk paths we couldn’t see, to build worlds we couldn’t imagine.

We spend years guiding, teaching, and steadying them, but the real measure of it all will be when they no longer look back for approval, only inward for alignment.

That’s when we’ll know: we didn’t just raise them to please us. We raised them to be free. ❤️

The hardest part of being a parent is realizing you don’t get to keep each version of your child.

The baby who snuggles on your chest, the toddler with the sweetest mispronunciations, the little voice calling “mama” all day long.

Each stage is only here for a short while.

Every version quietly fades and is replaced by another, and you love them just as deeply.

But no one prepares you for how much it aches to love someone who is always growing and changing.

It all moves so quickly that you hardly notice until the moment has already passed, lost in the middle of the everyday chaos. 🤍

Pregnancy and the postpartum journey are sacred, yet incredibly vulnerable seasons in a woman’s life. These moments shape her body, her emotions, and her memories. While each woman’s story is unique, one truth remains the same, she will never forget how she was treated during this time.

Every word of encouragement, every act of compassion, every gesture of respect leaves a lasting imprint. And sadly, so do the moments of neglect, judgment, or indifference.

This is why support matters. This is why kindness matters. This is why listening without judgment matters. Pregnancy and postpartum are not just medical or physical experiences, they are deeply emotional, transformative, and unforgettable.

Let’s choose to honor, uplift, and stand beside mothers during these tender stages. Because long after the sleepless nights, the diaper changes, and the milestones, what stays with her forever is how she was made to feel ♥️

With so many demands on their (and YOUR) time, we’re sometimes asked whether it makes sense for these not-so-littles to continue their Music Together classes. As you plan your family’s schedule, check out our answers to a few of your questions about how music benefits preschoolers and complements their growing curiosity and confidence: https://www.musictogether.com/parents/threes-and-fours-in-classes?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=post&utm_campaign=08132025
