182.7 miles around Heritage Square?! You're crushing it Laramie!
Check out her January blog post below, you're not going to want to miss it!
"Were you downtown last month and confused why there were people running around Heritage Square at all hours of the day/night? Nearly one hundred Flagstaff runners competed to see who could run the most times around the 0.3 mile loop for the chance for burritos for a year and eternal burrito legue glory. I was one of those burrito loopers and, as cheesy as it sounds, it changed my life (pun intended).
One day I was mindlessly scrolling Instagram and came across a post about a burrito league here in town and decided to try and see how long I could go. I knew that I had some serious milage on the calendar for my Sedona Canyons 125 training and figured that it would be a fun challenge. The first day that I made it to the loop, I decided to go big: fifteen miles. Within the first few minutes I met a runner who had attempted Cocodona multiple times and was coming back this year for redemption. A few miles later, I got to run with a runner who was training to break her personal record at the Mesa Marathon. A few short hours later, my allotted fifteen miles flew by and I was fully addicted. The next day I came back for more, met more incredible humans, and hit second place female. Right then and there I decided I was going to try to podium.
Fast forward a few more loopy days. I had ten miles on the calendar and, of course, I decided to go loop. As soon as I stepped foot on the segment, I met another runner who was training for her first Cocodona. We ended up talking for over seven hours and "accidentally" ran a marathon together. I took a rest day, then came back out to run some more loops, just to meet another looper turned friend. We enjoyed a few casual loops and were surprised to meet the one and only Rachel Entrekin, got to share a few miles together, and discussed training strategies and how to tackle Sedona Canyons.
Later that night I noticed a pain in my left Achilles (who knew making thousands of right hand turns could irritate your body). Luckily, I was able to meet with Dr. Jordan and the team to diagnose and help reduce the affects of Achilles tendonitis. Moral of the story, make sure you take care of your body when you are doing crazy things! With Proof's blessing and assistance, I was able to get back out on the loop to walk another hundred miles.
By the time midnight rolled around on January 31st, I had run a total of 609 loops around Heritage Square, equaling 182.7 miles, 2,436 right hand turns, and took 4th place female. I am so incredibly proud of this effort, the amount of support from Proof PT, and the people that pushed me to test my limits. After this incredible exercise of physical and mental endurance, I can confidently say that the real burrito is the friends we made along the way
