As of December 27th, 2025, at 12:00am, the City of Flandreau has taken over ambulance service for Moody County. For those that didn't know, the county voted to give up the ambulance during several meetings between the city and county. We strive to make this as much of a seamless transition as possible. Thanks

The majority of southeast South Dakota will receive 4 to 7 inches of snowfall today through Saturday. Heavier amounts of 5 to 12 inches are expected further east and southeast in southwest Minnesota, northwest Iowa, and northeast Nebraska. Some locations in northwest Iowa, especially southeast of Sioux City, Le Mars, and Spencer, could exceed a foot of snowfall. A light glaze of ice from freezing drizzle Friday afternoon and night is also expected near the Missouri River Valley and US Highway 20. After periods of moderate to heavy snowfall today, Saturday snowfall should be lighter, but possibly also blowing and drifting.

You've probably heard by now, but many areas are likely to see the first snowfall of the season on Saturday. Much remains uncertain on where greater amounts will fall, but here is a rough idea to time rain to snow changes and where the better chance for snow could potentially be.

Recently Moody County EMS and one of our local fire departments were dispatched to an emergency call. I am purposely making this post vague to respect the patient's privacy, HIPPA, and PHI.

This patient was experiencing a critical emergency where time was of the essence. Unfortunately, dispatch wasn't initially notified. Several witnesses/bystanders called fire department personnel directly instead of calling 911. This delayed the response of the ambulance and the fire department involved.

Please don't do this. If you need us or the fire department, call 911 or the non-emergency number of 605-997-2423. It's easier for the first responders to get information if it's coming from one source (dispatch). Dispatch will get the information out from the caller to the agencies that need it. Help us help you. Thanks. -WH
