Grateful for a meaningful parent seminar with Dr. Jackie Perry at Grace Mills River Church .
Parents were encouraged to rethink how they respond to children in moments of distress, conflict, or disconnection. Rather than starting with correction or problem-solving, the focus was on connection through presence and attentive listening.
Drawing from neuroscience and attachment research, the seminar introduced cruciform listening, a posture that moves toward children with humility and love rather than authority alone. When parents listen this way, they communicate that their child’s inner world matters, even when behavior still needs guidance.
The evening also explored how a parent’s consistent presence helps shape a child’s nervous system through safety, co-regulation, and relational predictability laying the groundwork for deeper connection and resilience.
Listening isn’t passive. It’s the steady relational work that helps children feel seen, understood, and secure.
