Fleas and ticks: tiny creatures, BIG problems. Prevention depends on your pet’s lifestyle, age, and any health considerations, because no two pets are exactly alike. Here are a few options to help your pets:
For Dogs 🐶
💊 Oral meds: Easy to give, highly effective, and usually monthly.
🛡️ Collars: Long-lasting, convenient, and perfect for pets who forget their meds (or for those sneaky escape artists).
For Cats 🐱
💧 Topical treatments: Applied to the skin, these work like a shield against parasites.
Pro tip: Even if your pet is an indoor superstar, some ticks and fleas sneak in anyway. Prevention is always better than cure. A vet visit for a flea infestation is never as fun as it sounds. 😬 Only use veterinary approved products. Ask us which product is the safest for your pets lifestyle, age and overall health.

We wish there were a one-size-fits-all scoop, but every pet is a little different. Here’s the short version:
🐶 Dogs: Amounts depend on size, age, activity level, and metabolism. A couch potato pug eats a lot less than a hiking lab!
🐱 Cats: They’re smaller, but those extra nibbles add up fast. Indoor cats especially need portion control to avoid sneaky weight gain.
💡 Tip: Always check your pet food’s feeding guide, then adjust with your vet’s help based on your pet’s body condition and activity level. You should be able to feel ribs but not see them.

Next time your furry friend gives you those “I’m starving!” eyes… remember, they’re professional actors. 🎭 Keep the portions right and the treats measured.

Chewing at paws, red skin, or constant ear scratching? Your pet might be telling you they have allergies! And just like people, they can be triggered by things like all that pollen in the North Carolina air, food, or even fleas. Common signs:
🐶 Dogs: Itchy skin, ear infections, paw licking/chewing, or chewing at their coat.
🐱 Cats: Excessive grooming, hair loss, or sneezing and watery eyes.
🩺 We can help pinpoint what’s causing the reaction and build a treatment plan to keep your pet comfortable.

Vaccines protect pets from serious, sometimes life-threatening diseases
🐶 Dogs: Core vaccines protect against rabies, distemper, parvo, and adenovirus. Depending on your dog’s lifestyle, we may also recommend bordetella (kennel cough), canine influenza, leptospirosis, or lyme.
🐱 Cats: Core vaccines protect against rabies, feline distemper (panleukopenia), herpesvirus, and calicivirus. Indoor-outdoor cats may also need FeLV (feline leukemia).
🗓️ When: Puppies and kittens start vaccines around 6 to 8 weeks of age, with boosters every 3-4 weeks until they’re fully protected. Adult pets need regular boosters based on their lifestyle and risk.

Our team can tailor a vaccine schedule that fits your pet’s age, health, and daily life, because no two pets are exactly alike!

🩷🩷Meet our Pet(s) of the Month for February - Stitch and Figment 🩷🩷

"Stitch and Figment joined our family in October 2025 after a rough start to life. They were found at a construction site in a bucket of dirt, only a couple of weeks old. Figment has a tiny tail and Stitch has no tail. A kind Good Samaritan rescued them but couldn’t keep them, so they were turned over to our good friends at Misfit Mountain Animal Rescue in Clyde

After a brief conversation with Amy, the Executive Director at Misfit Mountain, we knew we couldn’t “just foster” because we’d be total foster fails. So we adopted them both. They’re an amazing bonded brother‑and‑sister pair who love to play, do zoomies, be held, and purr away. They even enjoy watching TV—whether it’s the Olympics or cat TV—and they love car rides, usually snoozing the whole way.

They totally love Dr. Amber, who is always so patient with them and with us, and takes the time to explain everything in detail. We’re incredibly grateful for her care.

Huge thanks as well to the entire staff at White Oak for taking such great care of our fuzzy butts. We’re so happy we found our friends at White Oak!"

Finding that your cat has urinated outside the litter box can be frustrating, but it’s your cat’s way of telling you something is not quite right. 🩺

Here are the most common causes:
🚽 Medical issues like feline interstitial cystitis, bladder stones, or kidney problems.
😿 Stress or anxiety from changes at home. (New pets, new people, or even moving furniture)
🧼 Litter box concerns such as dirty litter, scented products, or a box that’s too small or hard to reach.

👉 The first step? Schedule a visit to rule out medical causes. Once your cat gets a clean bill of health, we can help you identify environmental or behavioral triggers. With a little detective work (and lots of love), most cats are back to their tidy habits in no time.

✨ Take it slow. Create separate safe spaces for each pet, so no one feels crowded or overwhelmed.
👃 Let them get used to each other’s scent before they meet face-to-face, swapping blankets or toys can help!
🐶🐱 Begin with brief, supervised meetings and maintain a positive tone in early interactions.
🎾 Reward calm behavior with praise, treats, or playtime to reinforce good vibes.

Remember, patience is key! Some pets bond right away; others need a little time, and that’s okay. If you’re unsure how to make the transition smooth, we can help with personalized guidance based on your pets’ personalities.
