WHAT'S GOING AROUND?— Each week, we ask our ER providers what ailments and conditions are commonly being seen in our Emergency Room.

THIS WEEK, Dr. Stephanie Hernandez, an emergency physician, reports:

URI
There has been a noticeable volume of patients experiencing symptoms of an upper respiratory infection —cough, congestion, runny nose — but testing negative for COVID-19, RSV and the flu.

Asthma
While allergy activity has been relatively low, conditions have led to further breathing complications for asthma sufferers.

Injuries
While the warmer temps have resulted in injuries for many enjoying the outdoors, there has also been a significant increase in the number of car accidents.

McLaren Flint’s board-certified radiologists support not only the hospital’s inpatients and ER patients here and in Fenton, but also McLaren Flint MRI and the Flint and Fenton Imaging Centers. They are doing so with timely, accurate results, which benefit both providers and patients. Most studies are read within 72 hours, with critical findings always communicated immediately. These services include CT, ultrasound, MRI/MRA/MRV, X-ray, bone density, 3D mammography, nuclear medicine, and PET/CT.

McLaren Flint and Fenton offer walk-in mammograms and X-rays weekdays, and you can make screening mammogram appointments online.

Thanks to all our imaging team members for their hard work and exceptional patient care.

There may not be symptoms that appear during the early stages of breast cancer, which is why routine screening mammograms are important for detecting the cancer as early as possible. The most common signs and symptoms are:

Twenty-one years ago, the American Cancer Society’s guidelines called for adults to start screening for colorectal cancer at 50, and that’s exactly when Jaqueline Robison went in for her first colonoscopy. The official matching process for hospitals and medical residents began last July with an application process. In March each year, the National Resident Matching Program (N**P) begins pairing residents with hospitals that would be a good fit. The process includes residents ranking the hospitals, the hospitals ranking the residents whom they've interviewed, and then a rather involved algorithm pairs them. The results were announced this week during Match Week. Today was McLaren Flint's Match Day, when we learned we have 34 matches, which means that many new residents who will join our team in June, along with the other residents and fellows we expect this summer.
The hospital’s residency programs include family and internal medicine, anesthesiology, orthopedic surgery, and emergency medicine.
Pictured below is McLaren Flint's 2025-2026 class of residents and fellows.
