HIV Testing M - Th 10:30 - 5:30 walk in or appointments assists in the care of individuals who are infected/affected by HIV/AIDS, and promotes education and prevention in the community. was formed to serve as a catalyst for the empowerment of people affected by HIV and a leader in HIV-related harm reduction and sensitivity education in our community. In furtherance of this purpose, Wellness will continue to:
o Provide and/or advocate for comprehensive and coordinated emotional and physical health care and social services to persons living with HIV and their families. o Facilitate harm reduction for those whose behaviors place them at greatest risk for infection with HIV. Vision

Wellness HIV/AIDS Services, Inc. will be an independent and financially stable agency with a multi-cultural staff and dozens of well-trained volunteers. Based upon detailed marketing and development plans and a record of quality services, the agency will become recognized as the “premiere” HIV authority in the community it serves. The focus and consolidation of the agency’s efforts will be reflected in its comprehensive model for the prevention of HIV and its effects, following three courses of prevention:
o Primary: To raise awareness and prevent new infection
o Secondary: To prevent the onset of symptoms among those already infected
o Tertiary: To prevent morbidity and morality among those who are already experiencing symptoms
All three approaches will be based upon the most current research conducted in both traditional and nontraditional medicine and the behavioral sciences and will rely heavily upon a family systems approach to harm reduction.

Today’s the day!

At Wellness Services Inc., we’ve always built with the community, not around it, but alongside it.

Every program we’ve grown, from HIV care to harm reduction, food access to navigation, exists because we listened. Because we saw the gaps, the stigma, the systems that didn’t work, and we chose to do something different.

Today is World AIDS Day…a day of dual truth remembrance and forward motion.
We honor those we lost, those who fought, loved, resisted, organized, advocated, and cared for one another through grief and through survival. Their names and their impact remain with us.

And we also celebrate those who are here, thriving, aging with HIV, building community, raising families, shaping art and culture, and living full lives that once seemed impossible. Today is a day to hold memory and possibility together.

Wellness Services has been part of that journey since May of 1986.

Born in Flint and rooted in resilience, we remain committed to serving people living with and impacted by HIV with dignity, compassion, and care.

Over the years, our work has expanded to harm reduction, STI testing, food access, medical services, LGBTQ+ support, the Flint Pride annual event, and community wellness, yet our mission has never changed.

We remember.
We celebrate.
We continue.

Because the story is still being written and we’re still here.

The best way to fight HIV is to stop it before it starts.

At Wellness Services Inc., we know that prevention is care. It's education. It’s access. And it’s power, especially in communities most impacted by stigma, poverty, and systemic barriers to health.
We began our prevention work by offering free HIV testing and education, helping people know their status and stay informed. Over time, our work expanded to include STI and Hepatitis C testing, outreach, and harm reduction strategies that meet people where they are.

The more we prevent HIV, the more we reduce its long-term impact on our community’s health, and the more lives we impact.

Countdown to Giving Tuesday!

Learn about Wellness Services' history in the Flint Community!

When the world started paying attention, we were already here.

In the early years of the HIV epidemic, Wellness Services Inc. was powered entirely by community, nurses, volunteers, and friends sitting with people in their final days.

Then in 1990, the passage of the Ryan White CARE Act changed the landscape of HIV care in America. For the first time, federal funding supported comprehensive services for people living with HIV.

That moment marked a turning point for Wellness.

We became a funded provider of HIV case management, offering not just support, but structured, ongoing care, and a pathway to health for our clients.

Today, decades later, case management remains a cornerstone of what we do. We walk alongside our clients, connecting them to care, housing, medications, food, and most of all, dignity.

We’ve never stopped showing up. And we never will.

It started with one nurse, one promise, and one chair by the bed.

In 1986, Wellness Services Inc. was founded by Jill Ramseyer, a nurse who refused to let people living with HIV die alone. She saw firsthand how stigma left people isolated, unsupported, and invisible.

So she built something radical: a buddy system. Volunteers sat with people living with HIV in hospitals and hospice. They watched soaps. Played cards. Held hands. They showed up, not to cure, but to care.

That’s the heart of who we are.

What began as bedside compassion has grown into a full-service organization offering HIV support, harm reduction, food access, housing assistance, and inclusive health care for all.

As we approach 40 years of service, we remain grounded in our origin and focused on the future, a Flint where wellness is a right, not a privilege.
