Most people will never understand what internet predator decoys actually endure.

From the outside, it looks simple. Sit behind a screen. Catch bad people. Post the results.

But what they do comes at a cost.

Decoys willingly step into some of the darkest corners of the internet so children do not have to. They read the messages. They see the grooming tactics. They absorb the manipulation, the lies, the threats, the fantasies. Day after day.

And the brain does not treat that as โ€œjust a screen.โ€

It treats it as real danger.

Many decoys quietly deal with secondary trauma. Intrusive thoughts. Sleepless nights. Hypervigilance. Emotional exhaustion. Anger that never fully shuts off. They carry conversations in their heads long after the case is over.

They sometimes feel guilt for having to pretend. Shame for keeping a conversation going long enough to secure evidence. Moral conflict between playing a role and protecting a child.

They rarely talk about it.

They miss normal life moments because they are watching chats. They lose faith in humanity because they see how common predators really are. They become overprotective because they know what is actually out there.

And still, they keep going.

Not for attention.
Not for praise.
Not for profit.

They do it because if they do not, someone elseโ€™s child becomes the target.

So today, this is for the decoys.

The ones who carry the mental weight quietly.
The ones who absorb the darkness so others stay safe.
The ones who sacrifice their own peace to protect kids they will never meet.

Your work matters.
Your strength is seen.
And your impact is real.

Take care of your mind the way you protect others. You deserve that same protection too.
