Serenity House Communities Serenity House is a recovery community that advocates for people in recovery.

Serenity House is a 501(c) 3 non-profit founded in 2015 by Tara Moreno as an addiction prevention service in Flint, Michigan. Serenity House is a recovery community organization that provides substance abuse and co-occurring disorders prevention for men, women, and adolescents. Services are conducted utilizing a Community Resiliency model that meets consumers in their current stage of change and empowers them to move through the trauma incurred from addiction from a whole-person perspective. Serenity House House provides a wide spectrum of services including: advocacy and educational events to reduce stigma surrounding addiction, and holistic methods to prevent addiction such as Recovery Reiki, Acudetox, Mindfulness for Adolescents & Adults, Yoga for Children, Adolescents, & Adults, Aromatherapy, and Drumming. The Serenity House of Flint is committed to promoting change and awareness; reducing stigma and shame by providing a better understanding of recovery.

As a Peer Recovery Coach, you’ll use your lived experience and recovery journey to support others on their path to wellness. This role focuses on:

✨ Helping connect people to recovery resources and community services

💜 A Powerful Moment in Recovery 💜

Last night, Rosana’s recovery coaching participants graduated from The Salvation Army. During his speech, he thanked Rosana and shared how she was an integral part of his journey.

With her permission, we’re honored to share her reflection from that moment:

“I never imagined becoming a Peer Recovery Coach. My journey didn't involve traditional treatment centers or holding myself accountable in a structured environment. When I stopped drinking, I lacked professional support, but I was fortunate to have Jennifer Douglas, whose guidance was invaluable. She intimately understood my struggles and offered support in ways others couldn't.

With the unwavering support of loved ones and mentors like Tahvan Williamson from Odyssey, I gained profound insights. The power of support, both within and outside recovery communities, has been transformative.

As a certified Peer Recovery Coach, I've faced doubts about my abilities, wondering if I truly made a difference in others' lives. But today, I'm reminded of my purpose. This video and photo are testaments to the impact I've had.

With permission to share, I'm honored to spotlight a participant who silenced my doubts. His graduation from The Salvation Army fills me with immense pride.

Moments like these fuel my passion to continue reaching out and supporting those in need. If you're struggling, know that help is available, and recovery is possible with the right support system. We do recovery, and there's help out there, filled with compassion and understanding.”
