A PET/CT scan combines two independently powerful imaging techniques into one test. The PET scan shows metabolic activity, while the CT scan provides detailed images of the body’s structure. Together, they give physicians a clearer picture of what’s happening inside the body.
PET/CT is commonly used to:
- Detect and stage cancer
- Monitor how well cancer treatment is working
- Identify cancer recurrence
- Evaluate certain heart and neurological conditions
By combining functional and anatomical imaging, PET/CT helps physicians make more accurate diagnoses and treatment decisions.
