❄️ January is Winter Safety Awareness Month ❄️

As temperatures drop, it’s important to stay alert to seasonal hazards that can impact homes, workplaces, and families. Winter Safety Awareness Month highlights key risks such as cold stress, slips and falls, and carbon monoxide exposure—all of which increase during colder months.

January also includes important safety observances:
🏠 National Radon Action Month (EPA) – A reminder to test your home for radon, a leading cause of lung cancer.
🛁 National Bath Safety Month (NDPA / Brighter Futures Indiana) – Focused on preventing child drownings and promoting safe bath-time practices.

This month is about preparedness and prevention:
✔️ Ensure carbon monoxide detectors are installed and working
✔️ Test your home for radon
✔️ Take precautions during icy or wet conditions
✔️ Never leave children unattended in the bath

This is one of our clients. At first he did not want the bedshaker in his home. The night of his FIRE, it is what saves him and his family. They were outside safe, waiting for the fire trucks.

But don't forget, we should have a smoke alarm on BOTH sides of that door! Obviously, we want to be alerted if the fire is in the living area. But if the door is closed and the fire starts inside the bedroom... We need to know as soon as possible! That's why the minimum code requires us to have an alarm on both sides of that door! But it's our job to be sure ours are working! Test them weekly and ensure they meet the newest standards!

Home fires happen when we least expect them.
