🌱 Plant Seeds, Watch Gratitude Grow

Gardening is a fun and rewarding way to grow fresh produce and teach little ones where their food comes from! Early spring is a great time to start planting herbs, vegetables, or flowers together as a family. As you care for your plants, take a moment to talk about what you’re grateful for and enjoy the process of watching something grow. By summer, you’ll have something fresh and meaningful to harvest and enjoy! 🌱

Gardening with children can also help build healthy habits, patience, and curiosity about new foods, especially when they get to help plant, water, and harvest.

Don’t have yard space? No problem! You can grow plants in pots on windowsills, balconies, or patios. You can also check out community gardens or local green spaces in your neighborhood to spend time outdoors and connect with nature.

WIC-Approved Food of the Month: Mushrooms 🍄

As the winter months come to a close, mushrooms are a great way to boost your Vitamin D intake before spring arrives!

Mushrooms are packed with nutrients like fiber, B vitamins, and potassium. They’re also a good source of copper and protein, which help support nerve function and bone health. 💕

Mushrooms are versatile and easy to add to many meals. Try including them in salads, stir-fries, soups, or mix them into meat and sauce dishes for extra flavor and nutrition.

Nutrient Highlight: Omega-3 Fatty Acids

Omega-3 fatty acids support heart health and can be found in many WIC-approved foods, including:

🐟 Canned fish such as salmon and tuna
🍳 Eggs and soy products like tofu
🥑 Brussels sprouts and avocados

Omega-3 fats are especially important during pregnancy, as they help support the development of a baby’s brain and eyes. These nutrients may also help reduce inflammation, lower blood pressure, and support overall heart and eye health. 💕

Talk with your local WIC staff to learn more about nutrition and how WIC can support your family. Visit www.signupwic.com for more information.
