🌷A'lysha, An Aspiring Doctor🌷

At 15, A’lysha wasn’t thinking about a career in healthcare. She was helping her grandma.

On her family’s horse farm, she became her grandmother’s caregiver during her battle with cancer. That experience stuck with her. After her grandma passed, A’lysha knew she wanted to keep showing up for people in the same way. Now, she’s working toward becoming a doctor, studying biology and pathology while continuing to care for others every day.

What she loves most about caregiving is simple. She makes life easier for people who need it, and gives families peace of mind knowing their loved one is safe.

When she moved to the area, she kept hearing the same name come up: Assisting Hands. She joined the team and quickly found support, resources, and people who genuinely care for her success.

Outside of work, A’lysha stays creative and active. She paints, makes music, works out, and spends time roller skating.

Thank you, A'lysha, for everything you do!

🌷April is Parkinson’s Awareness Month🌷

Parkinson’s does not just affect movement. It changes how everyday life works. Routines take longer, energy comes and goes, and small tasks can become frustrating.

For families caring for someone at home, that often means adjusting expectations and finding new ways to support independence.

That is where good caregiving matters. Not just helping with tasks, but understanding timing, being patient in slower moments, and showing up consistently.

We see the effort families put in every day, and we are here to support you.

Care Tip Tuesday 📖

As always, every tip comes straight from our care team, sharing the best advice they've learned from years of hands-on experience.

Today's Topic: Finding A New Independence

This week's care tip from Kate Race, a former memory care director:

“Independence doesn’t disappear, it just changes. Our job is to support the new version of it.”

Even as our loved ones' abilities decline, we can think creatively to focus on what they still can do to give them a sense of purpose and independence.

Today's Topic: Creating Purpose 🤝

This week's care tip from Loreli Privett, LPN & Care Manager:

"Help your loved one find purpose. Dementia does not take away the need to have a purpose. Allow them to help with dusting, sweeping, washing and drying dishes. Baking cookies to donate to the fire department can also really help create purpose."

Even small, meaningful tasks can bring a sense of accomplishment and joy. Purpose isn’t lost, it just may look a little different. 💙
