🌟Since we do have students in training at our practice, we want to share some of the many advantages of seeing a student intern for you or your loved one’s mental health counseling needs.

🌟Energy & Enthusiasm-many students are super excited about starting direct client care within their graduate program. This is the moment they have been waiting for after all of those years of school therefore, they are very energetic and enthusiastic about providing wonderful care to clients.

🌟Smaller caseload & better availability-most students are only allowed to have a very small caseload while they are still learning and in graduate school. With this smaller caseload they have more time to plan their sessions to individually tailor their approach specific to the clients’ needs, give their clients’ more time & attention and typically have better availability to book follow up appointments.

🌟 The most up-to-date research & information on evidence-based practices-since they are still in graduate school, they get to learn the most up-to-date information on what the science & research says is most helpful to clients.

🌟Willingness to ask questions & receive help-since they are still learning they are very willing to ask questions and receive help from their university supervisor, their clinical on-site supervisor and are very receptive to feedback from experts in the field who are more knowledgeable than they are.

🌟Low rates-many students offer a lower student rate since they are still learning. This is ideal for clients who are not insured or for clients who have a high deductible health plan, making it way more affordable for folks.

1) Setting boundaries with others is great self-care. When folks cross our boundaries and disrespect those parameters, this can be very stressful. Consider what boundaries you want to put in place this holiday season to keep your stress in check. If you don’t have capacity to sign up for all of the things…practice saying no so that you don’t feel overwhelmed and accidentally contribute to your own burnout.

2) Reach out & stay connected with others. Leaning on our support network by remaining connected with them is key to healthy coping, resilience, stress relief and is a huge protective factor for us. Even if the holiday season is busy, make time for those moments to connect with your people, you’ll be glad you did!

TAKE TIME FOR YOURSELF!

-This tip is a game changer for keeping holiday stress at bay. The holiday season adds a lot of extra tasks which may cause us to get out of our self-care routines. Remember to recharge your batteries so you aren’t pouring from an empty cup!

•Set realistic expectations this holiday season to prevent stress & overwhelm

•This may look like telling yourself everything does not have to be perfect and just trying your best

•This may look like telling people no and setting boundaries with others over your time

•This may look like setting a budget for food & gifts that is reasonable for you and your current financial situation. Communicate to friends and family about that, THEY WILL UNDERSTAND!

•This may also look like choosing a positive mindset this holiday season so you can enjoy quality time with your loved ones

•Finally, this may look like asking folks for help! It’s perfectly ok to ask friends & family to bring a dish to share for the holiday meal, ask for help with cleaning & getting the house company ready so you feel less frazzled and asking for help with decorating for the season/holiday events to feel less overwhelmed.

•Breathing mindfully is a great practice to decrease stress & tension

•You can breathe in peace for your inhale-remember to do a count of 4 & breathe out tension for your exhale-remember to extend your exhale for a count of 6…7…or even 8

•Repeat for 3-5 breaths to gain a calming effect

🍂With the Holiday Season upon us, we want to offer tips to help you manage your holiday stress with calm & care.

🍁The holidays can be a wonderfully joyous time for us, as we may be spending more quality time with those that matter most to us, such as our family & close friends.

🦃 Sometimes these extra family & financial obligations increase our stress levels & add too much to our plates. This is something to be on the lookout for!

🍗Sometimes our family dynamics can trigger us making that meal/visit a bit unbearable as difficult/unhealthy family relationships can challenge us & we may not know how to navigate things peacefully.

🎄Sometimes it’s the first holiday season without a loved one & the grief and loss feels big & heavy. It may be a reminder that our loved one is no longer here with us and may bring up sadness because of that.

🎅🏻Regardless of what it brings up for you or a loved one, these tips can really help you prioritize what truly matters & gives you ideas to manage your stress levels better this holiday season!
