That time on the table can feel like it goes by in an instant. People often ask what to do self care wise to maintain that blissful relaxation and openness post session. While these practices post massage are important, i.e hydrate, stretch, rest etc, what you practice BEFORE your massage can really help you maximize the benefits of what you are about to receive .
1. Light exercise, or movement. A short walk, a few jumping Jack's, a quick stretch, dancing around your living room can all help get the blood flowing so when you lay down on the massage table, soft tissue is instantly more open and flexible, so any work done can instantly address deeper adhesions.
2. Body check-in. Take a deep breath, even while in the car before coming in. Take a moment to do a quick body scan. What tension would like most attention?
3. Set intention or goal. Even if it is just to "relax more than ever before", taking a moment to set an intention for your upcoming session can help your body and mind get into synch so you can co create the experience to suit your needs more readily.
4. Plan your session at a time when you don't need to rush. Of course this cant always happen within life, but it's good to be mindful of!
5. Book ahead. There's nothing wrong with an "I need a massage NOW moment" and booking last minute, but having something preplanned on your calendar helps build cycles of relaxation, healing and feelings of worthiness. Your body/mind learns to expect and accept these things as a normal part of life and trains the ego/subconscious mind to look for more of it.
