August 01, 2023

Greetings Family,

The Board and Administrative Committee of Armistead Cemetery Foundation (ACF) hope that all is well with you and your family and that everyone is staying cool during these extremely hot temperatures.

The Administrative Committee has met four time this year. The officers did finish replacing the wooden stakes at the cemetery and hired a contractor to keep up the cemetery. Thanks to Mr. Willie McDaniel, Jr. and Mr. Lewis McCroskey for helping with replacing the stakes.

Our first general meeting, since the pandemic, will be as listed below:
ACF General Membership Meeting
August 12, 2023
Florence - Lauderdale Public Library
Reading Room (Second floor)
11:30 am - 1:30PM
As, stated in many times, AFC still need to get more members, particularly the younger one, involved in the leadership and planning ACF. The next generation of family members are needed to assume leadership roles to ensure that the foundation will continue to function and the cemetery is maintained. There are vacancies to be filled (See Appendix- Key Items). Any member can serve on the Board or a committee, including out of state members. We just request that out of state members be available to participate in meetings virtually or via conference call. Which can be set up as no cost to you - Just need your time.

Your dues were to be paid by February 28, 2023 - If you have not paid your dues, you can pay them (via mail) to:
Mrs. Algene Norwood, ACF Treasurer
1102 County Road 216
Florence, Alabama 35633

Request for Additional Financial Supports
The Administrative Committee discussed in our meeting the need for additional financial supports from our members or anyone who wishes to donate.
Justifications for this request:
1. Refund a paid member that have provided more than half of the money to pay the contractor.
2. To pay the contractor to maintain, more than just cutting grass, but weeding, removing trash, old flowers, tree limbs, and leaves. Also refilling small shallow graves as needed.
This need is based the actual cost maintain the cemetery only. This is not is for improvements. – Which we hope to do. As stated, in the April membership letter, the dues was increase this year by five (5) dollars because the costs of maintaining the cemetery continues to increase each year. The amount of dues collected have decrease because of our loss of family members and many members just have not paid yet. Also, the residual impact of the pandemic on communications and meeting on recruiting or getting family members involved. All funds from dues goes directly to the maintenance of the cemetery. Future dues increase will be discussed in more details during the General Membership meeting. To date, all the improvements/projects and tasks expenses have been covered by donations of AFC officers and members, the community, and outside individuals/organizations. The AFC officers provided all the refreshments for meetings. Special thanks to those who give more than required.
How to Donation
Be sure to write “Donations only” on your check in the For: Space. Note: This will not be applied to dues.
If paying dues and making a donation - Write Dues $ amount / Donation $ amount on your check in the For: Space.
Mail your donations to:

Greetings and Happy New Year,

The Board and Administrative Committee of Armistead Cemetery Foundation (ACF) hope that your holidays were great, and that you and your family have a safe and bless New Year.

We are sure most of you are aware of our great loss - the passing of Mr. George Smith, Vice Chair of our Board of Directors. He was very diligently in his service to both the board and ACF. He was always one of the first on the scene for a task or meeting at the cemetery. We miss him already because he was so supportive and dependable.

Because of the persisting impacts of Covid 19, the onset of Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV), and an early flu season, we did not have any Administrative Committee meetings nor the annual membership meeting last year. However, the officers have met twice this year to handle the most pressing business of the organization, and to put up a new flag at the cemetery.

The dues was increase this year by five dollars because the costs of maintaining the cemetery continues to increase each year. Future dues increase will be discussed in more detail during the General Membership meeting. All of the improvements/projects and tasks expenses have been covered by donations of AFC officers and members, the community, and outside individuals/organizations. All funds from dues goes directly to the maintenance of the cemetery. Special thanks to those who give more than required.

Greetings and Happy New Year,

The Board and Administrative Committee of Armistead Cemetery Foundation (ACF) hope that your holidays were great, and that you and your family have a safe and bless New Year.

As you know, 2020 was a year that had many changes and challenges because of the Covid-19 pandemic. During the past year we had an Administrative Committee (meeting of the officers) meeting in March. However, the annual General Membership meeting scheduled for August was cancelled and will be reschedule at a late date. During the Administrative Committee meeting there were 2 goals that were completed:

1. Rehired Mr. Jimmy Smith to maintain the cemetery for 2020
2. Conducted the Spring Clean-up (Please Note: Spring Clean-Up is usually done by volunteers at no cost but was completed by Mr. Smith this year due to time frame. Also this entails more than just cutting the grass and picking up trashes and removing old flowers)

This year we are looking forward to having the annual General Membership meeting. We have some exciting things planned, such as the awards presentation and a visit to the cemetery and cabin site. We are also pleased to announce that the replacing of the wooden grave markers with permanent markers will be completed by the end of March by the AFC Maintenance & Improvement Committee. If you would like to provide assistance with this project, please contact Vice President Jessie Smith at 256-710-3671.

The costs of maintaining the cemetery continues to increase each year. This will be discussed in more details during the General Membership meeting.
