Today is HPV Awareness Day — a reminder that we have the power to prevent cervical cancer in our lifetime.
HPV is the virus behind nearly all cervical cancers. The good news? The HPV vaccine prevents the infection that leads to cancer, and it works best when given early, at ages 9–12, before any chance of exposure.
Here's what every parent should know: Ages 9–14: Just 2 doses needed. Ages 15–26: 3 doses recommended. The vaccine is covered by most health insurance plans with no deductible. Children aged 9–18 who have no insurance, are under-insured, have Medicaid, or identify as American or Alaskan Native are eligible for free HPV vaccines through VFC.
This isn't just a vaccine; it's cancer prevention. Talk to your child's doctor or contact your county health department today.
