The closer we get, the better it looks!

Better for some snow showers, that is. These snow showers are the fun kind of snow. The cold will be a much bigger problem than dry, blowing snow in a howling northwest wind gusting over 35 miles per hour Saturday.

Yes, it's possible that some 1-2" accumulations will happen in the mountains in northeastern Alabama, and there will be at least some potential for up to 1" of quick snow here and there elsewhere through Saturday afternoon. The big thing here is the COLD. Be prepared for it if you're traveling on Saturday! I don't think the weather will cause you a problem, but if you run into a problem (accident, breakdown, etc.), you will want to be prepared.

In just 30 minutes, weather this cold can cause frost bite (Saturday's wind chill near zero).

⚠️FRIDAY: Mostly cloudy with some light rain or snow mix developing by late morning. Temperatures will rise from the upper 20s in the morning to the low-40s in the afternoon. Little to no accumulation of snow or sleet expected.

⚠️SATURDAY: Dangerously cold. Temperatures plunge into the 10s with a northwest wind gusting as high as 35 miles per hour. That wind will be dropping the wind chill below zero at times in the morning. Most of North and Central Alabama will stay below freezing all day, and some snow showers could bring a dusting to one inch of snowfall in scattered spots through Saturday afternoon.

⚠️SUNDAY: A frigid morning in the single digits and lower 10s. High temperatures rise to the mid-30s with some sunshine in the afternoon.

⚠️MONDAY: Another hard freeze in the morning, with highs in the 40s.

TUESDAY: Morning lows in the 20s, with highs in the upper 40s and low 50s.

WEDNESDAY: Some scattered showers are possible. Morning lows in the upper 30s before afternoon highs in the low 50s.

THURSDAY: Morning lows in the 30s before and afternoon in the 40s. More clouds than sun during the day.

⚠️🌡️ ALABAMA WEATHER UPDATE: A Wild Ride Ahead! 🌡️

We’re starting with a freeze this morning, but Thursday afternoon actually won't be too bad! Expect mid-40s in North Alabama and 50+ for Birmingham, Shelby County, and Tuscaloosa - all with more sun than clouds. Enjoy it while it lasts!

The Shift: ☁️

Friday: Clouds and some light rain. We might see a few snowflakes mix in, but no travel issues are expected. 🌬️ Saturday: This is the big one. It’s looking brutal. We’re talking the coldest day of the season so far with "howling" north winds gusting 30-40 mph.

There's also that chance of some SNOW! It'll be light, and any accumulation will be light and of limited impact.

Watch out for:

Dangerous Wind Chills: Feeling close to zero for much of the day.

Power Outages: Those wind gusts could bring down branches on power lines. It's a low chance, but you don't want to be without electricity with it being this cold.

🌸 The Silver Lining: We are officially less than 50 days from Spring! Hang in there—we’re only halfway through winter, so keep the heavy coats handy. ❄️
Alabama's weather forecast:

THURSDAY: Morning lows in the middle 20s. Fair, chilly and dry in the afternoon. Highs in the mid-40s north of Birmingham, near 50 from Birmingham and Tuscaloosa southward.

⚠️FRIDAY: Mostly cloudy with some light rain or snow mix developing by late morning. Temperatures will rise from the upper 20s in the morning to the low-40s in the afternoon. Little to no accumulation of snow or sleet expected. *This forecast has a degree of uncertainty; continue to check back for the latest updates.

⚠️SATURDAY: Dangerously cold. Temperatures plunge into the 10s with a northwest wind gusting as high as 35 miles per hour. 1/25/26 6a Update (Long Post Alert):

(Today's Outlook) Temps across our county continue to rise, however, a cold pocket remains in Western Lauderdale where a wintery mix is still falling. Temps will improve throughout the day, before falling rapidly this afternoon. Rain will continue for most areas until mid-day giving a short window for road crews to attempt to treat roads. There are more than 1300 miles of road maintained by Lauderdale County Road Department and more than 900 miles of road maintained by Florence Street Department.

(Damage Reports) As for overnight damage as we reach daybreak we are beginning to receive calls of trees down following yesterday's ice. Road crews are working to remove downed trees. Most damage is isolated to areas from Hwy 20 west to Waterloo.

(Power Outages) Currently, utility crews are working to restore power to 620 customers.

(Road Conditions) Rain is helping to wash away yesterday's ice, however slush remains along roads that were treated and plowed. Caution should be used if traveling today. Please do not go around any barricades placed while road crews work to clear debris.

(Overnight Sunday) Temps will bottom out late this afternoon, and any water left on roadways will freeze tonight and ice will remain with us through Tuesday.

It looks like the weather is gonna hit around 5 AM tomorrow morning. If you have a heat pump it is gonna be best to switch to emergency or auxiliary heat around then if ice builds up on your condenser fan motor blade it will wear your motor out faster and cost you more money in the long run
Give us a call if you need us if we can get out on the road 256-335-6951 or 256-394-2520

The big shifts in the forecast are over. Now, we are just fine-tuning the specific spots that will see a wintry mix versus those that will stay plain rain. 🌡️

Friday: Quiet and Mild 🌤️
Weather: Partly sunny and mostly dry.

Temps: Highs in the 40s and 50s. Enjoy it before the cold arrives!

Saturday Morning: The Arctic Arrival 🧊
An arctic front arrives, dropping Birmingham into the 30s and Northwest Alabama into the 20s.

Where: The Shoals, Huntsville, Decatur, Cullman, Haleyville, Russellville, and Hamilton. 📍

Wintry Mix: A few hours of snow, sleet, or freezing rain could cause temporary travel issues. 🚗⚠️

Power Risks: In Lauderdale, Colbert, and Franklin Counties, if we get more freezing rain than sleet, localized power outages are possible. 🔌

The Thaw: Temperatures should "warm" into the 30s by Saturday afternoon, changing the mix to rain for most. ☔

Saturday Evening: The Eastern Chill 🥶
Cold air pushing in from the east could cause a brief window of freezing rain or wintry mix for:

Jackson, DeKalb, Marshall, Etowah, Cherokee, Calhoun, Cleburne, Randolph, Clay, and Chambers counties.

Duration: This will be light and short-lived before heavy rain moves in. 🕒

Sunday: Heavy Rain & Flash Freeze 🌊
The Washout: Any lingering ice will be washed away by rain.

Rainfall: Up to 2 inches of rain is possible. 🌧️

Road Hazard: As cold air sweeps back in Sunday night, standing water could freeze into black ice before Monday morning. 🧊🛣️

Next Week: The Big Freeze ❄️
This isn't a "hype" event—it’s just a long stretch of very cold air.

The Numbers: Several days with lows in the 10s and highs staying in the 30s/40s. 📉

Impact: Because the cold is so consistent, the main concerns are frozen pipes and general cold-weather mischief. 🚰🧤

As with any potential storm, we try to err on the side of caution. That said, there will be a lot of talk about the graphic below related to winter weather this weekend. Yesterday there were only two possible solutions to the model data, this afternoon a third option has been added to the mix. This is what makes preparing a community for severe winter weather difficult. Here's the bottom line, a strong low pressure system will interact with a strong arctic system this weekend over the central US and will result in a major winter storm. What remains to be seen is what the low will do when it interacts with the Rocky Mountains and Great Plains (Currently the low is off the coast of California). Our hope is that our community is let down and the storm misses us north, the reality is that there is something about the Tennessee River that always ends up surprising us and with all 3 scenarios, NW Alabama remains in the bullseye 🎯. By Thursday night we should have the most accurate probabilities to provide you. Please do not let the rollercoaster of data impact your preparation. An ounce of preparation will prevent a pound of heartache. We are monitoring and will continue to provide updates.
