For their February meeting, the McLeod Health Seacoast Fellows class learned about Cardiac Services at McLeod Health at the Coast.

They heard from Dr. Sepehr Karimi with McLeod Vascular Associates, and Dr. Joseph Marmora with McLeod Cardiology Associates. Allysha Cook, Patient Care Supervisor with McLeod Cardiology Associates, took the group on a tour of the Catheterization Lab.

Ronald Fowler, Chairman of the McLeod Health Board of Trustees, gave the closing remarks at the end of the meeting.

These community leaders give their time to learn about the issues facing health care and how McLeod Health Seacoast addresses them to ensure excellent health care for our region.

For their February meeting, the McLeod Fellows Class learned about the Heart and Vascular Institute at McLeod Regional Medical Center.

Amanda Butler, Vice President of Patient Services, spoke about the cardiac care provided to the community and the heart programs supported by the Foundation.

Members toured the Catheterization Lab and heard from Dr. Alan Blaker, Interventional Cardiologist with McLeod Cardiology Associates and Executive Medical Director of the McLeod Heart and Vascular Institute.

Dr. Prabal Guha, Electrophysiologist with McLeod Cardiology Associates, explained the leading technology being performed in the Electrophysiology Lab. Dr. Blaker and Dr. Guha, also spoke about the Structural Heart Program.

Dr. Carmen Piccolo, Vascular Surgeon with McLeod Vascular Associates, spoke about the Hybrid OR and Randy Page, Director of Nursing, Cardiovascular Operating Room, toured the class through the Hybrid OR.

At just 22 months old, Kiki Alvarez lights up every room with his curious spirit and contagious giggle. But, behind his joyful demeanor, Kiki’s parents began noticing something that tugged at their hearts -- he wasn’t speaking like others his age. A key part of Kiki’s journey has been the use of specialized therapy tools and sensory equipment made possible by the Chapin Foundation grant for the McLeod Carolina Forest Pediatric Rehabilitation department. Kiki’s story of hope thanks to donors like the Chapin Foundation is featured on page 12.
