I’m grateful to Bold Journey Magazine for the opportunity to share this story.

The interview reflects on burnout, nervous-system healing, and the work that emerged from that process over time.

People want trauma repair to be linear.

Something happens.

You understand it.
You do the work.
You’re done.

That’s rarely how it unfolds.

Sometimes the nervous system settles quickly.
Sometimes it takes years.
Sometimes one layer resolves and another surfaces later.

Sometimes nothing moves for a long time — and then something does.

There isn’t a single path through this.

What is consistent: the body changes through experience, not explanation — and it does so unevenly, in its own time.

Trauma repair is possible.

It unfolds through time, repetition, and persistence — often one layer at a time.

Some experiences don’t resolve the same way.

Earlier this week, I shared a story about an emergency my nervous system was able to move through and recover from the storm that passed.

Years later, a different emergency unfolded very differently.

My nervous system didn’t recalibrate.
The activation generalized.
The fear lingered.

Not because I did something wrong —
but because the body responded differently under different conditions.

I wrote about that experience in The Fire That Stayed — and what it taught me about trauma, kindness, and how repair unfolds over time.

Sometimes the body does exactly what it needs to do.

In an emergency years ago, my nervous system mobilized, adapted, and eventually settled again.

Not because I processed it intellectually — but because the conditions allowed recovery to happen.

I wrote about that experience, and what adaptive recovery actually looks like, in The Storm That Passed.

Some of you have been following this work quietly for a while.

I shared more of the story behind it — the burnout, the shift, and the role horses played — in a recent interview with Bold Journey Magazine.

The full piece is now up.

I didn’t learn resilience from pushing harder.
I learned it through relationship, presence, and pace.

I shared more of that journey — and how horses reshaped my understanding of resilience — in a recent interview with Bold Journey Magazine.
