Summer is on! Record heat is hitting several parts of the United States, and those high temps (not to mention being cooped up inside) can make anyone a bit grouchy or short-fused. That’s why it’s especially important to focus on your mental wellbeing this summer and stay cool and calm.

As you focus on your own mental wellbeing, you may begin to notice how people around you are handling stress, anxiety, anger and other emotions. That’s where MHFA comes into play. Getting certified as a Mental Health First Aider helps you recognize and respond to signs of mental health and substance use challenges. So far, MHFA has trained more than 3 million First Aiders – and we’re not done yet!

If you’re already a First Aider – thank you for taking action. If you’re not, now is the perfect time to find a course. We want everyone in America to have at least one First Aider in their close circle of friends, family and peers, so we have a goal: Training 1 in every 15 people in MHFA.

ONE in FIVE Americans has experienced a mental health challenge, but many are reluctant to seek help or don’t know where to turn for care. Friends and family members may find it hard to know when and how to step in. Mental Health First Aiders learn a 5-step Action Plan that guides them through the process of reaching out and offering appropriate support.
