It's so easy to push through and ignore signs your body is giving you to slow down, breathe, or talk to someone about how you are feeling.

Your physical, mental, and spiritual well-being all need time to rest in order for you to be healthy.

Prioritize your health today by taking a moment to breathe deeply, reaching out to a loved one, or planning an intentional time to rest so you can care for your health.

Our team will be taking a Spring Break from social media and strongly encourage you to give yourself permission to take a break and reset in whatever area of your life you need to.

Thank you for joining us last week as we unpacked a few of the ways we can practice body neutrality in our daily lives.

As we move into this new week, and you’ve become more aware of your own relationship with your body, please remember to have patience with yourself as you embrace body neutrality.

Media and marketing are often unkind to those of us who are learning to shift from a habit of negativity, or false positivity, to a neutral midpoint.

You’re doing hard but valuable work.

We will always be here when you need us.

How does practicing body neutrality look in your relationship to food and movement?

Good question!

Here are some ways you can distinguish body cues or needs without judgment and respond with care, knowing your body's only intention is to serve you well each and every day.

✨ Be reasonable versus restrictive with food choices.

Choose whole, fresh foods that provide essential nourishment to your body, but also make sure to allow a favorite treat on a weekly basis.

✨ Listen to your body

Opt for both necessary and rewarding physical activities. Balance physical exertion with rest, when you feel tired and drained– don’t give yourself a hard time for taking it easy. Naps are allowed!

Body neutrality is the idea that you can exist without having to think too much about your body one way or another, positively or negatively.

You can simply exist and be worthy of respect without thinking about your body at all.

Here are some ways you can begin practicing body neutrality.

✨ Drop body talk from your conversations

This includes body talk you have with yourself.

For example, instead of being angry when your jeans feel a little tight, you might simply choose a pair of pants that feel comfortable and easy to move in.

✨ Redirect conversations

If friends or loved ones bring up weight, size, or express discontent with their bodies, talk about how you (or they) feel, rather than how you look.

Breathing is a vital part of life.

The physical benefits of deep breathing are often immediate. By breathing deeply, you can activate your parasympathetic nervous system, and it, in turn, slows down your heart rate and lowers your blood pressure-creating a feeling of calm.

When your body is operating under a “fight or flight” response, or stress, it releases a surge of hormones ( such as cortisol and adrenaline )that cause your breathing to speed up, increase your pulse and blood pressure, and puts you in a state of hypervigilance.

Deep breathing can help reverse this response and relax your body.

Don't forget to take time to breathe deeply today

Grounding is a practice that can help you pull away from flashbacks, unwanted memories, and painful emotions.

Try this practice to help you focus on the present moment by using your five senses and the tangible objects around you.

Working backward from 5, use your senses to list things you notice around you.

✨ 5 things you hear

✨ 4 things you see

✨ 3 things you can touch from where you’re sitting

✨ 2 things you can smell

✨ 1 thing you can taste.

Make an effort to notice the little things you might not always pay attention to, such as the color of the flecks in the carpet or the hum of your computer.

This practice will help you focus on the present and bring awareness to your body and mind.

Feeling skeptical about joining a group therapy program?

Here are a few of the reasons we love group therapy that set it apart from individual therapy.

✨ Group therapy offers the opportunity to both receive support from others and to give support to others. Receiving support from others is part of the bonding that occurs in groups, whereas giving support to others allows for growth and learning.

✨ Group therapy helps individuals develop communication skills and relational skills, and allows everyone to learn how to express their experiences and accept constructive feedback from others.

✨ Group therapy allows individuals to develop self-awareness through psychoeducation and by listening to others with similar experiences.

✨ Group therapy provides a safe way to speak honestly about our experiences and reduces shame that has prevented us from doing so in the past.
