Days with weather like today feel a lot like the first year of recovery.

We’re so focused on getting where we want to go — fast — that we forget the road still deserves our attention. When we rush, we miss the turns, the warning signs, and the unexpected barriers. And sometimes, we spin out not because we aren’t trying hard enough… but because we’re trying to skip the parts that teach us how to drive safely.

Addiction trains us to chase immediate relief. Immediate comfort. Immediate gratification. But recovery asks something different. It asks us to slow down. To tolerate the in-between. To learn patience when everything in us wants a shortcut.

Here’s the truth: slowing down doesn’t mean you’re failing. It means you’re building the skills to actually stay where you’re going.

You will still reach your destination.
Just not at the reckless speed that used to hurt you.
