Making of my death altar, a class assignment.

After pondering on the meaning of the death altar, I thought of the Life/Death that walks beside me. Life is raw and suffering; thus, I am continuously balancing the light and the shadow, or simply my inhale and exhale of breath. How often had I held my breath?

Flow of my death altar:
• Flower of Life wood grid under a Monet floral scarf, representing my journey in light and shadow
• Candles—I arrived (and traveled) with light (I later lit three incenses for—my teachers, my ancestors, and my Spirit/Guides)
• Rhodochrosite stones—Life is suffering yet compassionate (Walking into the bow of wisdom years)
• Feather and Crystals—Life’s signs, symbols, synchronicity
• My guardian angel is with me
• Reiki Memorabilia—class-made necklaces, cards, yearbook
• Ancestors

What surprised me when done was simply a walk from/in/with/to Love. There were no remembered loved ones or a lifelong career (both of which were a large part of my self-identity). I was the stone shaped by the flow of life from beginning to end. My life was given, supported, and returned to the Spirit. Life is suffering. Life is also a grace. Love truly unfolds in all forms.
