Equine-assisted therapy does not involve riding. A significant part of the therapeutic process happens when the horse is allowed to be its authentic self, interacting naturally with participants. This allows the horse to become a powerful teacher and partner in the therapeutic experience. When a person rides a horse, the dynamic shifts—the rider becomes the one in control and the horse is expected to follow direction. In equine-assisted therapy, however, participants work on the ground with the horse. This creates space for genuine interaction, allowing individuals to learn about communication, boundaries, emotional awareness, and trust in a natural and meaningful way.

However, I feel compelled to advise that when seeking EAP services, it's essential to inquire about the credentials and licensure of the therapist. Unfortunately, I've noticed an increasing number of individuals advertising therapy services without proper qualification, which is concerning and unethical. To protect the integrity of our profession, I strongly recommend verifying the credentials of any EAP provider to ensure a safe and effective experience.
