Life is good, inside and outside of FPT! πŸ’œ

Our front office team member Drew recently got to enjoy a Sacramento Kings game alongside one of our longtime and much-loved gym community members, Orlando. Moments like this remind us that what we’re building at FPT goes far beyond appointments and workouts.

We’re grateful for a community rooted in relationships, where care extends both ways and connection truly matters.

This is the heart of FPT. πŸ€ πŸ’™

Join us for a thoughtful conversation about low back pain and your treatment options on February 11th at 6:00 PM!

We’re excited to welcome Dr. Brian Blackburn, board-certified orthopaedic spine surgeon with Complete Spine Care Group, for a special educational evening at Folsom Physical Therapy.

During this talk, Dr. Blackburn will cover:

β˜‘οΈ how surgeons advise patients to manage lumbar back pain and avoid surgery when possible

β˜‘οΈ when a fusion or disc replacement may be recommended

β˜‘οΈ who is a candidate for each procedure and the pros and cons of each

β˜‘οΈ what the surgery and rehabilitation process actually looks like

β˜‘οΈ and how long-term outcomes and aging affect spinal hardware

Many people live with chronic low back pain. Some do well with physical therapy, injections, massage, and other conservative care, while others may need surgery to regain quality of life. This talk is designed to help you understand when, why, and how those decisions are made!

Strong core = strong movement πŸ’₯

In this exercise β€” multi-directional manual resisted upper quadrant exercise to be exact β€” the client is working on abdominal stability, coordination, and endurance while holding the arms farther from the point of abdominal support. The client is challenged to maintain an abdominal contraction strong enough to keep the spine supported/safe AND resist changing intensities and directions of force being exerted through the arms.

This kind of training helps teach the body how to remain stable during real-life, dynamic tasks, making it especially valuable for anyone recovering from spine issues or working toward safer overhead and rotational movement.

Want to learn how to build deeper, more functional core strength? We can help you train smarter. πŸ’™

Building upper-body strength without stressing the lower back πŸ’™ πŸ’ͺ🏻

In this photo, the client is performing a pull-up assist β€” a great way to train upper extremity strength while avoiding added pressure on the lumbar spine. This supported variation allows patients to work on pulling mechanics, shoulder stability, and upper-body power safely and effectively.

For individuals recovering from lumbar issues, this exercise provides a strong, stable foundation for rebuilding strength without compromising the healing lower back.

Smart training β†’ safe progress β†’ stronger outcomes.

Working toward strength and symmetry πŸ’™

In this photo, our client is performing a supported wall squat with hip adduction to retrain symmetrical firing of both legs. This type of exercise is especially helpful for patients who have:

✨ unilateral weakness from a lower-extremity joint injury
✨ recovering neurologic weakness from a back injury
✨ difficulty returning to normal, balanced movement patterns

By rebuilding equal strength and coordination, patients learn how to use their bodies more normally β€” improving stability, confidence, and overall function.
Stronger movement begins with restoring balance!

Strength starts with control β€” not just effort. πŸ’ͺ🏻

In this photo, our client is performing Level II ball sit-ups, an abdominal exercise designed to strengthen the core while keeping the lower spine stabilized. As the upper spine extends, the lumbar spine stays supported β€” an essential skill for safe, pain-free movement.
We teach this exercise because it directly improves overhead function. When the core can stabilize while the upper body moves, clients lift, reach, and perform daily or athletic overhead activities with greater ease and less strain.

Better stability β†’ better function β†’ better living.

Pelvic floor therapy isn’t just for adults, kids can benefit, too!

In this photo, a young patient is using pelvic floor biofeedback, a gentle and child-friendly tool that helps kids learn how to control the muscles that support the bladder. Biofeedback isn’t scary β€” it’s visual, interactive, and often even fun for kids.

By watching their pelvic floor muscles work in real time, children can learn:
what an urge to urinate feels like

-how to control that urge long enough to get to the bathroom

-how to coordinate the muscles needed for healthy bladder habits

For children experiencing urinary incontinence, urgency, or bathroom accidents, pelvic floor biofeedback can be an empowering step toward confidence and control.

If your child is struggling with bladder issues, our pelvic floor therapist is here to help with education, encouragement, and kid-friendly tools every step of the way. πŸ’™ ✨

Strong backs are built from the ground up! πŸ’™ πŸ’ͺ🏻

In this photo, the patient is performing a spinal extensor strengthening exercise where the entire head and torso are unsupported, requiring all the muscles along the ENTIRE spine to engage. The glutes and hamstrings provide the foundation, creating a powerful, coordinated chain of support.

Because this movement is performed horizontally to gravity, it loads the spine safely and effectively β€” making it an excellent strengthening option for people with lower back problems who need a controlled, joint-friendly way to build resilience.

Safe loading + full-chain activation = stronger backs and better movement.

Cardio that cares for your joints πŸ’™

Spin bike cardio is one of our favorite tools for patients who want a great workout without high-impact stress. It’s especially helpful for those recovering from leg injuries or anyone who can’t tolerate high-level weight-bearing exercise.

At Folsom Physical Therapy, we don’t just put you on the bike, we teach you how to ride safely. Your PT will guide you through proper setup and technique so you can move without compromising your spinal or lower extremity alignment.

Strong, safe, and sustainable movement… that’s the FPT difference! πŸ’ͺ🏻 ✨

Building shoulder strength starts at the foundation πŸ’ͺ🏻 ✨

In this photo, we’re working on a scapular depressor strengthening exercise β€” an essential part of shoulder rehab. A stable, well-coordinated scapula gives the shoulder the support it needs to move smoothly and heal properly.

When patients come in with shoulder pain, we always begin with the fundamentals. Strong scapular control creates the foundation for effective, long-lasting shoulder recovery.

Strength starts at the base β€” and we’re here to guide every step. πŸ’™
