Comprehensive Physical Therapy, Inc. Outpatient Physical & Occupational Therapy Practice in Forest City, Hawley, Honesdale, Carbondale, & Dunmore. Therapy with a Smile!

"CPT" is an outpatient Physical and Occupational Therapy practice. Suzanne and Stephen Atcavage, both physical therapists, opened their first office at the Forest City location in 1997. Since 1997, the practice has expanded to five locations - Forest City, Hawley, Carbondale, Dunmore, and Honesdale. The practice is inspired by the goal to provide patient-focused care and the use of evidence-based medicine to ensure the provision of effective, customized care, specific to each client's need. At CPT, the patient is NOT a number. Lymphedema care, sports medicine, Board Certified Hand Therapy, vestibular rehabilitation, concussion management, Parkinson's Disease programs and pelvic floor rehabilitation are among the specialty care services offered. A summary of CPT's expansive services can be found on this website.

Did you know? 💡

After breast surgery, the risk of developing lymphedema varies:
💠Fewer than 5% of women who have a sentinel node biopsy develop lymphedema.
💠About 10–20% of women who have an axillary lymph node dissection may develop it.
💠Lymphedema most often occurs within the first 3 years after surgery if it’s going to develop.

Slips and Trips: ⚠️Preventing Falls Matters!

💠Did you know that 40%–70% of people with chronic stroke (PwCS) experience harmful falls each year while walking?

💠Research shows that perturbation-based training — practicing controlled “slip” and “trip” movements — can significantly reduce fall risk.

💠Just 24 repetitions in a single session can make a major difference in improving balance and safety!

👉Let’s take steps to prevent falls and promote confidence in movement.

Interstitial cystitis (IC) is the medical term for inflammation of the bladder. Symptoms can vary widely between patients. Often, pelvic pain and urinary symptoms, including increased frequency and an urgent need to use the bathroom, are typical in presentation. 🚨You can be diagnosed after experiencing 6 weeks of symptoms with no other explanation (i.e., UTI).

✨Pelvic Floor Therapy is the single most effective treatment for IC, but can take up to 3 months of consistent treatment to maximize improvement.

👉Full symptom relief cannot be achieved by focusing on the bladder alone. Many IC symptoms are directly related to dysfunction in the pelvic floor, which is where your Physical Therapist comes in.

🥹Your pelvic floor PT can help you navigate symptom management and relief, assist with finding medical providers and information to help support you, and help you develop a good self-care program.

😁While chronic, IC can be put into remission, and healing is possible!

Interesting fact! If a woman chooses to have breast reconstruction following a mastectomy for breast cancer, it does not appear to affect her risk of lymphedema. 🥊💗 Further, the type of breast reconstruction does not appear to affect her risk!

Meet our patient, Joseph. Joseph arrived at CPT with weeping legs in early April.

He has shown significant improvement in skin integrity, as well as tissue mobility. 🦵✨Through education and training, he is now able to independently don his compression knee highs daily to maintain the reduction of girth in his legs.

He graduated CPT in early September, and we are so very proud of him and how far he has come in his Lymphedema Therapy journey!! 👏🎓 He is even back to driving on his own and living life to the fullest! Congratulations & Great Work, Joseph!🥳
