My non-toxic journey began about 8 years ago! My daughter was a normal, healthy child until age 8. She was physically active in soccer, basketball, lacrosse, swimming, etc. Suddenly she became very ill. Her official diagnosis came back as moderate/severe Crohn’s Disease/Ulcerative Colitis. The GI Specialists – with only a few tests and a quick diagnosis – “sentenced” her to a bleak future of a lifetime of toxic meds that only treat the symptoms, and with side effects of infertility and worse. I couldn’t accept that prognosis. Coming from an analyst background, I wanted to know “why” and began researching for root causes. I essentially took on the full time job of curing my child. My research led me to embrace a combination of traditional, alternative and complimentary “tools”. Fast forward ... I now have a healthy 16 year-old. And I have launched into a career as a Health & Wellness Advocate. Along our journey to wellness, it became apparent that our environment (macro and micro) can lead to many chronic illnesses. Over the years, I learned that the ingredients in many of our everyday products may be contributing to all sorts of ailments from aggravating to debilitating. So I searched for better products and even began making my own laundry detergents, cleaners, and used pure oils and butters for several of my personal care products. During my search for an aluminum-free, propylene glycol-free deodorant (that works!) I stumbled across Ava Anderson. The last Federal law pertaining to the safety of personal care products was passed in 1938. Eighty-percent (80%) of what is in your bottles have never been individually tested for safety; NONE have been tested in combination! I believe people need to be educated to know that they’re on their own. It was offensive to me to discover that 9 of 10 cancers are ENVIRONMENTAL. Only 1 of 10 is genetic! But for some reason this mind-boggling information from the President’s Cancer Council a few years ago has not made it’s way into mainstream media. In the absence of information, it seems that most American's believe that a store/manufacturer’s products must be safe just by virtue of their ability to market and sell them. I am here to tell you that this is not the case ... and Ava gives me the forum and the Mission for spreading the word.
