Teen dating violence can take many forms, and the warning signs aren’t always obvious.

Excessive jealousy, controlling behavior, constant monitoring, pressuring someone, or isolating them from friends and family are all red flags that should never be ignored.

During Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month, we are committed to helping young people understand that healthy relationships are built on respect, boundaries, and communication. Respect is non negotiable.

If you or someone you know needs help, reach out to a trusted adult, school counselor, or contact the National Teen Dating Abuse Helpline (1-866-331-9474 or text “LOVEIS” to 22522). Our Licensed Clinicians are also avaiable 24/7 at 708-209-4181.

Closing Out Black History Month with Love, Light, and Celebration

As we come to the end of Black History Month, let’s take a moment to reflect on the rich legacy of Black excellence, resilience, and love that has shaped not only the past but continues to influence the future.

This month, Riveredge was honored to sponsor Styles 4 Kidz’ annual Hair Show to celebrate Black and biracial youth's crowns and give them confidence.

Styles4Kidz is a wonderful organization that provides high-quality, compassionate hair care education and services for kids with textured hair in foster care and transracial adoptive or biracial families. Through her dedication, Tamekia Swint, Founder of S4K, is building bridges for communities where every child, regardless of their background, can feel seen, valued, and loved. This year’s Hair Show honored the beauty, creativity, and cultural legacy of Black hair, while centering confidence, self-expression, and joy. With kids and teens owning the runway it was most definitely an unforgettable experience.

May we continue to lift each other up with light and empower future generations with strength, wisdom, and love.

Join us in congratulating our January employee of the month Tatiana.

As a Senior Accountant in our Business Office, Tatiana takes on a lot of our financial responsibility and helps us track our performance. But Tatiana was not just nominated for her math skills, her colleague had this to say about her.

"I have nominated Tatiana for her outstanding work ethic and delivery of service. Tatiana is courteous, helpful, professional, and always willing to assist. She is simply a delight to work with. She always maintains a "can do" attitude. In my opinion, she exemplifies an outstanding Riveredge Hospital employee and colleague, and I am delighted to nominate her!"

Thank you for all that you do, Tatiana. We appreciate you.

Friday is expected to be the coldest day for the Chicagoland area in years.

We will be under an Extreme Cold Warning with possible wind chills as cold as -40° in some spots tomorrow morning. Just like your mental health - your safety matters, so bundle up, plan ahead, and stay warm.
Here are some immediate safety measures you can take during the warning:

• Stay Indoors: Avoid going outside during the coldest parts of the day.
• Dress in Layers: Wear mittens, hats, and scarves to protect against frostbite and hypothermia.
• Protect Your Home: Keep your home heated (68-70°F if possible) and seal cracks around doors and windows with towels or rags.
• Prevent Frozen Pipes: Let faucets drip slightly and keep kitchen/bathroom cabinet doors open to allow heat to circulate.
• Monitor Vulnerable Individuals: Check on elderly neighbors, family members, and children.
• Pet Safety: Bring all pets and livestock indoors or into a warm, sheltered area.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, observed on the third Monday of January each year, marks the birthday of the civil rights leader and activist. In 1994, Congress designated Martin Luther King, Jr. Day as a national day of service . MLK Day is not just a moment to reflect on history—it’s a call to action. Dr. King fought tirelessly for justice, equality, and the rights of the marginalized. His message is as urgent today as it was decades ago.

The theme this year is “Mission Possible 2: Building Community, Uniting a Nation the Nonviolent Way.”

Let us reflect, learn, and continue to stand for kindness and humanity.
