L'Arche Chicago

L'Arche Chicago L'Arche Chicago is a community of people with and without disabilities sharing life together in faith

Our community is anchored around three homes on the west side of Chicago and Forest Park. In each home, four adults with disabilities ("core members") share life with assistants who come to stay for a year or more.

In this cold weather, nothing beats a craft day! 🩷🎨

We are less than two weeks away from our Solidarity Brunch on Saturday, February 7, at Riverside Golf Club, and our core members are working to do their part to support our sister L’Arche communities that face daily barriers. We are so excited to include core member art and poetry in our raffle at this year’s Brunch.

⛄🌤It’s a chilly day in Chicago, but we can’t help daydreaming about our summer plans. Do you know your plans? Consider applying to our 10-week internship program. As a summer intern, you would take on the role of an assistant and share in daily life with core members (individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities) while living in one of our homes.

Over the years, our program has been a valuable experience for students in medicine, nursing, social work, psychology, occupational therapy, physical therapy, philosophy, theology, or education.

Last week, this year’s cohort of international volunteers attended a retreat at L'Arche Atlanta with other international volunteers from across the country.🏙🧡

The retreat provided volunteers with an opportunity to meet other volunteers from L’Arche communities across the country and to discover the ways each community is both similar and unique. The volunteers also loved the opportunity to explore Atlanta and visit the Coca-Cola Museum.

All are welcome!❤️💗

Join us for our Solidarity Brunch on February 7th from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Riverside Golf Club, 2520 S Des Plaines Ave, North Riverside, as we come together in friendship and solidarity with L'Arche communities around the world.

In many parts of the globe, our sister communities face daily barriers, such as limited funding, housing insecurity, and lack of access to quality care. Your generosity helps lift those barriers, strengthening communities where people with and without disabilities share life in meaningful ways.

L'Arche Chicago is rockin' around the Christmas tree!❤️🎄

At our holiday party, we gathered around Anders's 9-foot Christmas tree to share a meal prepared by Evangeline. Matt, our new Community Formation Manager, led the party by beginning with a reflection on how to find hope this holiday season. Take a look at Matt's reflection and takeaways from the festive evening:https://larchechicago.org/about-larche/news/finding-hope-in-the-holiday-season/

Jean is an artist whose work is celebrated at Peace House. Her artwork hangs in the spaces we share every day - bright, bold, creative reminders that this home is shaped by those who live there. 🎨

That’s what real belonging looks like: welcomed, honored, treasured, and seen.

Have you seen any core member artwork around community that makes you feel at home?

Their mission is to foster a lifelong sense of belonging through residential homes that empower individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to participate fully in their communities.

Today, L’Arche Chicago supports 15 core members across four thoughtfully located homes in semi-urban neighborhoods throughout Chicagoland. The Pulte Family Charitable Foundation is honored to support L’Arche’s healthcare and nursing programs, helping to ease the financial burdens faced by these individuals and their families.

Come and see

Our mission is to celebrate the unique value of each person and to create lifelong places of belonging through our three Chicago homes that empower residents to share their gifts with their neighborhood, city, country and world.

L’Arche Chicago was founded in 2000 by Sr. Maria Zeimen when she welcomed Elbert Lott and Jean Wilson to live in community in a home on the West Side of the city. Almost twenty years later, the Chicago community continues to live together in a spirit of belonging, support and peace-making. We aim to be a sign that a more humane world is possible.

We welcome you to “come and see” the joy and magic that is L’Arche Chicago.
